banking groups for oncycle

These are the groups with HHs hit up for Day 1 on-cycle interviews. Granted, just what I’ve heard/encountered, so feel free to correct me/comment any additional groups.

GS TMT/FIG/IND, MS M&A/MediaComms (unconfirmed), JPM M&A/HC, PJT RSSG, EVR M&A/RX, HL RX, Lazard, BofA M&A/FSG

Looks like process was super early this year and HH were very selective. Any info on other BBs & Moelis would be appreciated.

This is a pointless exercise. If you are at a "good enough" combination of bank and group, and are a ideal candidate, you will get invites. My friends at the following banks not mentioned above that are non-diversity all received invites: Moelis, PWP, BofA non M&A/FSG/REGL, Barclays. Another thread said Piper Sandler too.

tryna help quantify what “good enough” bank and group is. Obviously going to differ from fund to fund, but just giving info.

why are they so selective about this? the talent pool is spread across many firms. I used to think only the sharpest kids got EVR but you realize that's not even close to true.

Group is literally the #1 determiner of oncycle opportunities, especially for MF... this can change in offcycle/once you get some reps, but oncycle is VERY determined by what group you are in. There's literally nothing else to sort them on, everyone is a well-qualified grad with no experience. Strong behavioral and having prepped LBOs/case studies are table stakes... there's not much left, are they going to determine how well you aligned logos as an intern?

Go look at the top funds that post bios, their ASOs/VPs are almost always from a small number of elite groups.

Know a bunch of guys/gals that went through the process for MFs and SIGNED MF offers On the BB side: GS: think 1-3 each from TMT, HC, and IND placed (not sure about NR & Consumer) MS: think 1-3 each from M&A, M&C, GPUG, and FSG placed (not sure about the rest) JPM: think a couple of M&A and HC signed, not sure about the rest BofA: think a couple in BofA as a whole signed (M&A and FSG probs). Not sure about the rest

Don’t think the rest of BBs had MF looks

On the EB side: RSSG: placed a few at top MFs Evercore: placed around 5-10 at MFs Centerview: difficult to interview because of 3 year program Moelis: didn’t hear about anyone placing (I’m sure a few placed) Lazard: didn’t hear about anyone placing (I’m sure a few placed)

Know kids at DB who got MF PE outreach and interviews... every BB/EB will get some kind of on-cycle in terms of interviews. There is a correlation between people's internship offers and prep quality usually though so those DB kids often don't do so hot. Also goes without saying the worse the BB/EB, the more of a top group you have to be in (I..e : at DB only top groups get looks, while at like GS most coverage groups are getting looks).

Know RELL and Sponsor kids who got on-cycle MF interviews when I did on-cycle (am class of 2023). I seriously doubt it's very different in terms of who gets looks though it's very clear significantly fewer firms are now doing on-cycle(this year 10 did and not all gave out offers, year before number was closer to 15-20).
