It could be accurate if you look at the ranking criteria: student surveys, GMAT/SAT scores, % of students with internsips, starting salary, % of students pursuing an MBA......PLUS, I do not see why Upenn cant be 3 and UVA 1. You guys should realize that business programs are not solely for getting their students to wallstreet. Marketing, entreneurship, international business, accounting etc programs still exist and are a big part of business programs.......

the list may be based on those criteria, but wall st prestige is totally different. UVA is a good school. in fact, moelis only recruits from Wharton, UVA, NYU. HLHZ mostly recruits their restructuring arm from Columbia, Wharton, NYU, UVA.

But the fact of the matter is, there are a lot of non-quantitative factors that must get considered for the ranking. i.e. how many alumn from the school is on wall st - therefore better networking options. wharton is a ivy whereas UVA is not - immediate prestige. there are a lot of factors to be considered.

even on a wall street site, if youre going to post about the rankings, at least know the different aspects of business that are not "fuck it, i'm going to wall street"....uva does not get nearly the amount of respect on this board it deserves and that's pretty sad

As a disclaimer, I don't go to Wharton, nor does my school even have a business program, but beyond a doubt Wharton should be #1. It's incredibly well-respected no matter what field you're in. UVA: not nearly as much (although I'm sure it's still a great program).

Haha, I had this talk the other day with someone. I don't really care about how well I'm "educated" at the end of the day. And from the fact that from BBs to Fortune 500s most businesses have training programs teaching you what you need for the job, they probably dont care either. Therefore, I would say recruiting is a VERY important part and I think should be weighted a lot more heavily by busweek. From a recent superday, these rankings are not representative of that type of weighting

Wharton was the first Business school ever established. There history is ridiculous and should be number 1 across all boards for undergrad Business school permanently.

Businessweek changes the rankings every year to sell magazines. If they had they same list each year, no one would be interested. However, the ranking results do not give much credibility to the rankings. I don't think you would find any recruiter than would rank Notre Dame above Wharton or Haas.

nobody cares about your undergrad business program. It's good to go to a target in order to get interviews, but unlike MBA programs, it just doesn't matter after that.

what i am continually confused about is the insistence of including "mba feeder school" as part of the ranking. at wharton, we pride ourselves of not having to get an mba. furthermore, most of my classes this last year have been with mbas. if that wasn't enough, we do better than them on tests... so with all this in mind, why on earth would i want to get an mba? but hey, i'm not the one making the ranking

BYU's strong (some may say even best in the country) Accounting program carries them in the ranking, although their finance department isn't as good, it is improving.

I'd say kids who I've met from BYU (who are interested in IBD and Wall Street) are just as intelligent and competitive than any other school. Some may be even better because of the chip on their shoulder. Maybe they aren't top 5 in prestige, but for the overall business experience the ranking is not that much of a stretch.

I am surprised to see that Marquette U. isn't in the top 50. Their Applied Investment Management program, while young, has consistently placed students at BB banks in the past decade. I may be biased given that I am a student there but it's strong alumni base and relationship with the CFA institute are one of the many factors that are contributing to its rise.

It may not be a target for BB banks yet but a number of mid market investment banks consistently recruit there and BGI is always looking for strong talent with a solid background in investment ethics.
