is McCombs a semi-target in APAC
Hi,
I am considering MBA, just wonder if anyone could give some insights on McCombs MBA? Is McCombs a semi - target in APAC recruiting?
Thanks a lot!

Hi yinan1024, check out these threads:
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
No it isn't. They have plenty of top local schools to cover + think about all those asian kids at top ivies.
No, it isn't a semi-target.
McCombs does very well regionally but lacks alums and a brand that extends to APAC.
do you think parttime ross works better than full time Mccombs?
It really depends on what you want to do.
McCombs is a great MBA if you want to stay in Texas, if not, I would reconsider going there.
Ross is a higher ranked program but part time MBAs are a different animal and it depends what you want to do. If you want to do banking in Texas, McCombs is better. If you want to accelerate your career, a part time in general is better especially at a higher ranked program.
In 5 years from now the only thing that will matter is 1) where you got your MBA (not how) and 2) your post-MBA job.
Thanks!
To be honest it's hard for me to decide. Need to keep currently job to raise the family but also want to switch to front office from current middle office role.
And what do you think of Tepper MBA (full time or part time)?
Again, it depends what you want to do. If you want to go into Tech, a Tepper MBA will get you there. But if you want IB, Tepper may not be the best place.
I suggest focusing on what you want to do and working backwards.
That makes sense.
I want to do corporate finance, do you think Ross part time is helpful?
More info is needed.
Do want to do corp fin at a F500? How many years of WE do you have? What was your UG? What are you doing now? Are you in the US? APAC? Etc...Etc....
If you're 2 years out of UG doing mid/back office work at a F500, a part time MBA prob isn't going to do it.
If you're 10 years out of UG doing mid/back office work at a F500 and a part time MBA will help you laterally move over, Ross may help but a lot of it is going to be up to you.
I do want to do corp fin at F500 or potentially IB if possible.
I have almost 6 years experience in credit risk management at Morgan Stanley. I am an international student in US and graduated from a state college (think of penn state or ohio state). 760 GMAT but 2.8 GPA.
It's really hard for me to choose what programs(FT or PT) and which schools to apply to
If you want to do IB, you need to go full time. IB has a highly structured recruiting process and it's near impossible to pivot to that part time. If you want to take this track, I suggest applying to Johnson (possible) and Stern (stretch), as W/CBS/Booth may be difficult given your UG GPA.
If you want to do F500, there's a chance you can pivot via a part time program such as Ross, but it's more uncertain. Your other option is part time and try to move internally, maybe to an ER role at M S post-MBA. Again, a higher risk move than FT. Part time (or maybe even EMBA) programs are easier to get into than full time and I would suggest focusing on all the finance focused schools.
What schools you should target is easy, how you want to do your MBA is up to you / your career goals.
Really appreciate your help!
Do you think Ross/Kenan-Flagler fulltime is reachable based on my background?
Ross FT may be a bit of a stretch, UNC should be achievable. Your essays and talking about your UG GPA will be key.
Keep in mind, each school has its own focus/niche. Ross is a great T10 program and does very well in consulting, IB is less of a focus though still achievable from there FT. I'm not as familiar w/ UNC.
