J.P. Morgan - Video Interview Invitation Corporate & Investment Banking Summer Analyst

I just got offered a J.P. Morgan - Video Interview. What should I expect? This is what was stated in the email. "As mentioned previously, we would like to give you the opportunity to tell us more about yourself and invite you to record video responses to 3 questions."

Please let me know on how to proceed and on how to prepare. Do you know if they ask specific video interview questions? Do you have any general video interview tips? Something like a top 10 interview questions and answers list to the JP Morgan hirevue interview?

Thank you so much.

Investment Banking Video Interview Questions?

If you're at the video interview portion of your internship application process this most likely means you've passed the initial screen application screen (i.e., GPA) and phone interview. This video interview is likely the only thing standing between you and the Superday. And just like any other aspect of the application process, there are known details you should know and prepare for in advance.

In regards to the video interviews, the general consensus from the WSO Community suggests that the video interviews tend to have some similarities regardless of the firm you're applying to. The 2 main aspects you need to plan for are:

1. The Video Interview Structure, and;
2. The Questions

Hirevue and Yello Format

* 3-4 Questions
* 60 seconds to prepare your response
* 60-90 seconds to deliver your response
* A couple retakes to submit your video after reviewing your response
The whole process should take somewhere between 20-30 min depending on the amount of time you use in the above steps.

Hirevue and Yello Questions

In regards to the questions, there is no list of known questions that you can plan for but there some topics that frequently come up. You can prepare for each by knowing some of the common questions that fall in each bucket. Having your answers to the below questions should definitely increase your chances of making it to the next round.

**Behavioral**

These questions tend to focus on your actions in the past. They look to assess how you have behaved in the past and whether or not you have the requisite skills and personality to succeed in the firm.

** Questions that prior video interviewees have been asked are

* Why JPM?
* Why IB?
* Describe a situation where you had to collaborate with a difficult colleague
* Give an example of how you've worked on a team.

**Situational**

These questions tend to focus on how you would behave in the future via a hypothetical situation. These questions will assess your problem solving ability and how you might handle difficult circumstances in the future.

**Questions you might run into

* If you know your boss is 100% wrong about something how would you handle it?
* Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
* You have 10 minutes before you’re due to give a presentation. What do you do?

**Technical**

Lastly, you have the technical questions. This is purely to assess your knowledge and/or intelligence. The questions can very from defining finance terminology, to current world events/market trends, or

** Questions you might run into

* What’s WACC and how do you calculate it?
* Name me two companies that you think should consider merging. Why?
* How would you value an established industrials company vs. a tech start-up? Why?
* What’s the Treasury Stock Method?
* Why would you or would you not invest in Apple?
* What is the Dow Jones Industrial Average/FTSE as of today’s opening bell?
* Walk me through a DCF

@zootiezoot I am curious if this is just a pre-screening or a first round as well. Apparently, BAML and GS are doing a hire-vue video screening for a first round perhaps this is the same?

Howard Hughes:
Does everyone who applies to CIB at JPM get the video interview invite?

nope, 3.5 gpa non target and i got it. However if your a target with a high gpa 3.8> they will most likely ding your app for being too good

This is not an interview, but will act as a first round if your resume is passed through the screening. All applicants receive this. So if your resume is not chosen, it could be just all for nothing.

I agree. But still, I doubt "everyone" get its because theres no way they have time to review every single video from all candidates. And if they weren't planning on reviewing it anyway, why send it out to them? just my two cents

The algorithms aren't to detect your speech and what you are saying. They're more focused on eye contact, posture, speech inflection, etc. from what I have read. I highly doubt that a Yello algorithm is going to have any determination whether you get a job at JPM. The alums that I have talked to also say that they view the actual videos themselves.

Anyone here complete the JPM SF phone interview and also get this video interview? I got the former but not the latter. I put NYC as my #1 choice anyway—think my resume must have been pulled by the SF office.

According to my friend who applied last year, be ready for questions like: why JPM, why IB, and something like: tell me about a time you worked in a team. He did not have anything technical and said that after the video he received a phone interview as the next round.

Alright I have a question. I submitted my app and got phone interview as well as Video invitation BUT I realized that the "legal name" I provided in my application and on yello was misspelled. Upon realizing that I made the mistake I quickly corrected my name in "edit my profile" section on yello.

My question is will the change be reflected in the app I already submitted (and got video interview invitation for)? I haven't done the video interview yet.

questions don't have a set playbook, the set you'll get are boilerplate behaviorals that are probably randomized from a larger list of questions (i.e. tell me about a time when...., why JPM, why S&T/IB)

They probably get around 5-10 thousand applications. I'm not sure how many are accepted. I make this estimate because I work for a small bank in Santa Monica and we get roughly 1,500 applicants.

Goldman had 250,000 applicants last summer lol so I wouldn't be surprised if JPMC got over 100k either. Source: https:// www.cnbc. com/ 2016/06/05/goldman- sachs-attracts-250000-student-job-applications. html (fix the spaces lol).
