Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet. So, has anyone seen it? What kind of ridiculous plans do you have for tonight?

I actually don't think I can bring myself to see it.
There are already like three threads on WS2 and other finance movies. WS2 sucked complete ass.
Good Finance Movies
Barbarians at the Gates Rogue Trader Boiler Room Other People's Money Trader Documentary on Paul Tudor Jones The Smartest Guys in the Room
I'm on the same boat as Edmundo. I'm just not in the mood to get sick to my stomach.
Awesome man, thanks; never seen any of them. Any one in particular you recommend?
I never saw the first one. The only reason I would see this one is because I don't want to miss out on like 200 threads on this site.

BLASPHEMY!!!
LOL
read this then decide if you're gonna watch it, personally I'll wait for the bootlegs to come out...
haha I figured I'd get a response from that... actually, I thought Patrick might delete my account
that trailer was pretty weak, regardless im definitely going to see it
whose trading floor is that?
Knight Capital, know some guys there who were used as extras in the floor scenes.
This failed to excite me at all, expected much more from an Oliver Stone trailer.

trailer was a bit weak, and i cant stand shia, but ill definitely go see this
RBC, I believe.
My speaker's gone and watching this trailer without it left me clueless of what this story's about. I'll see it anyway. My transformer kid has finally graduated from college! =)
Nice suits, egotistical characters, prestigious items... I saw all of these in the trailer. Piece that into a reasonably accurate depiction of a Wall Street story (which the original Wall Street had) and I think I will enjoy.
I can't say that there have been many other movies that have depicted Wall Street as well as the original. Even movies like Trading Places, American Psycho, and Rogue Trader had certain aspects but definitely not the whole package. Although when Bud Fox turns into Navy Seal spy it does get a bit ridiculous, I still get intrigued at watching the corporate raiding and market manipulation that the movie focused on.
Maybe I am setting the expectations too high for myself, but I don't expect some perfect depiction of Wall Street where the analyst is hating his life fixing circular references. I want to see the Wall Street that we all imagine before we get there. The idea that you bust your ass and you do fly in helicopters and sail in yachts. Hell, if it were anything like the real thing, haha I doubt anyone would watch.
I stay away from trailers ever since my friends drug me to Cast Away, the trailer for which I had not seen. I was on edge the entire movie until he left the island. My friends didn't understand my white-knuckling followed by excitement at his rescue. Why? Because the fucking trailer showed him on the airplane ride home, totally negating an hour+ of tension that made the movie that much better. I'll definitely watch it, only for Stone/Douglas. LaBeouf is a douche.
Totally off subject, but regarding American Psycho's depiction of Wall Street, not the coked-up, throwing hundreds around social lifestyle, but the "work" scenes. Bateman, an M&A VP, was shown always sitting in his office reading magazines and rocking out to Huey & Co. I never really grasped that depiction. Obviously, the entire movie is a dark satire, augmenting all aspects/stereotypes of 80's Wall Street. But was the depiction that these guys don't do shit and still get bank, or that Bateman was just a spoiled brat who did nothing while his colleagues were jamming? It's not really relevant to the plot, but I was always just curious.
Then again, I guess it just wouldn't be sexy to see Bateman marking up something and yelling at an Associate/Analyst on his way out the door to Dorsia.
Well, I suppose an interesting scene would be him furiously ripping up someone's work and suddenly hallucinating that all the red ink was actually blood.
I wonder if Ollie is still considered the best trader on the street in this one
Anyone ever watch "Wall street warrios"?
I hate trailers! Why do people even watch trailers? They just spoil the entire movie.
I dare you to go see a good movie without knowing what it is going to be about (i.e. no trailers, etc.), you will enjoy the movie a lot more that way, guaranteed!
BTW, when is this movie coming out?
You also might pay $10 and waste two hours watching a complete piece of garbage.
I thought it was pretty cool. Can't wait for it.
They are filming part of this at Tivoli Partners - Hedge Fund
O and can anyone answer why the hell Shia Labeouf and no Charlie Sheen???
Cause Charlie Sheen fucked him over in the last movie. If this movie focuses on Gekko and his protege, then it can't include Sheen.
lol sorry to ruin it but i heard charlie sheens in the movie.
Yeah, I hear Sheen makes a cameo
If Charlie Sheen is in the movie, it will definitely be a legit sequel. Looks like it'll be a pretty sweet movie, regardless of the fact that I don't really like Shia Leboeuf
shia lefbeuf is a fucker.
It looks pretty good nonetheless. Shia riding in that pimp ass helicopter should spawn some new IB spoofs.

Much better than the teaser trailer released a couple weeks ago:
I've seen an interview or two of Shia Lebeuf saying that while researching for his role "a few hedge funds gave him a few million $ to trade with." Bullshit. He may have been putzing around on a personal etrade account while some industry guys coached him, but I can't believe that HFs actually gave him capital to play with (and presumably lose).
Now this looks so much fun! "You either do it right or you get eliminated." Yay! :D
Other than Shia Lebeouf, this movie is gonna be amazing. Preachy like the usual Oliver Stone faire, but I can cope. Sounds like the screenwriter came up with some good quotes.
“It’s easy to get in, but hard to get out.” Why can’t I understand the above quote in the trailer??heh, heh
Btw, the movie looks exciting.
Ten times better than the other one
These are all sarcastic comments, right? This movie looks terrible. It's gonna make Speed 2 look like Citizen Kane.
This trailer is a lot better than what we've seen previously. Why Lebeouf though? WHY????
This will be sweet. I didn't mind the original trailer. Everyone stop hating.
I can't wait. Since I have kids, this will be the first movie I can watch a) without them and b) that doesn't involve some sort of animated talking animal.
They could have picked a better looking daughter for Gecko, seriously. She looks like a fucking 11 year old boy.
It looks good as at it keeps the same grittiness Wall Street had and its not a feel good love fest.
+1
Well... they wanted to make the LaBeouf attraction seem real...
We should get a WSO group screening. We can deck out the whole cinema and belligerently cheer when Gekko does something less-than-righteous.
Ah... a love story. This looks terrible.
weak. shia lebouf is no bud fox. and his girl friend is no meghan fox. i am disappointed.
Shia is still Ok but why that ugly Carry Mulligan as actress. Mike D will make this movie work on his own.
I heard Charlie Sheen makes a cameo, but I've been unable to confirm.
He's listed 4th in the cast on IMDB (order of appearance?), so I would say that's a pretty solid probability
when i first saw wallstreet 1, i was still in college. and i loved it because bud fox was a character i could easily relate too. just another guy in the rat race trying to beat the curve and make it big like his idol gordon gecko. and it makes for a legitimately interesting story about how he loses his way and has to face his consequences. not to mention that gordon gecko was classic. it was just over all a good movie.
i cant relate to shia's character. he looks like he already has it pretty good. and the plot looks like its suppose to be some kind of murder mystery meets love story meets something else meets gordon gecko having something to do with all this. the only good thing about this movie is the return of gordon gecko.
'man looks into the abyss, and theres nothing staring back at him. thats when man finds his character. and thats what keeps him out of the abyss.' ... fuckin classic.
whetehr or not money never sleeps will be a classic, we will know in due course.
Much better trailer. But have to agree, why Shia Ledouche? They couldn't have found anyone else? I hate to think Shia Ledouche will have the same honor as Charlie Sheen.
Bud Fox FTW
Too many quotes to choose from, so Ill go with this "This turkey is totally brain-dead!"
LOL ^
I was thinking the same. Piven is a little old to play the role IMO
WOW this movie is going to suck so bad, we are going to have a surge of idiots wanting to be "stock brokers" .
This was like a bad music video to "Sympathy for the Devil", which was the best part.
GNR version would have been more badass
Can't wait!
I hope all Banks on the street organize a Boiler Room style field trip to see this movie. No offense to the actress playing Gekko's daughter but most women that are the child of a "Gordon Gekko" don't have a conscience and don't have boyish haircuts.
This movie looks wayyyyyy too Mickey Mouse. Seriously, where is the edge? Gekko was ruthless and his intensity was off the charts. Like I need to see him cracking stupid jokes about his daughter. If he is actually cold in the movie then the trailor should have at least shown some teeth.
What is next, Ben Afflec doing a lame Glen Gary Glenross scence? Oh wait...
This sequel, I don't personally think it will be as relevant as the Godfather part 2. But just because I saw the first one I guess I'll see this one too. There will be no academy award performances here. :(
The trailer makes it seem like it is more a film about gecko and the relationship with his daughter and the dude ( I get it its the plot). But I don't see that they will show inner workings of wallstreet like the first movie did. But I guess we will have to wait and see.
The chick is cute, I'd bang her...

I hate the music in both trailers. I think it's too early to say that Oliver Stone has lost his touch, but it is goddamn likely. After Stone's performance on Alexander, you've gotta wonder if the old man's got the magic. Personally, I think Stone should have retired after Wall Street, everything after that was very forgettable.
This movie is not going to be anywhere near as good as the original, but I'll watch it all the same, out of curiosity mostly. Does anyone actually believe some sappy love story is going to appeal to traders / bankers / wannabes / or even the public? It just seems very weak sauce. Plus, the idea of a preachy Gecko is a bit weird. Douglas is the man though, I'm sure he'll be able to pull it off without it being too annoying.
Shia's baby face + romantic love story + crappy music - anything relevant about Wall Street culture = shit show. If you asked Patrick Bateman what happened to the Wall Street franchise he'd probably answer: "that Yale thing."
Matt Damon would have been infinitely better than Shia. Imagine, Wall Street 2 with Damon staring and Scorsese directing but with an actual plot, pure awesomeness.
It just seems like this movie is targeted to the same demographic as Gossip Girl - don't ask. I can just tell that this is going to be a huge disappointment.
MMBiNC: you've got style bro, that profile pic proves it.
Looks like the release date's pushed back to Sept 24... sucks...
^ Matt Damon would be great, except the guy's almost 40 as well. Maybe Topher Grace? He was in 'In Good Company'
If I had two hours to spare, I'd go see it. However, I work in finance.
Great marketing plan, Oliver Stone! Create a movie where the people who'd be most interested in it don't have time to see it!

these new clips from money never sleeps..
despite all the negative fanfare on this site, I believe this film could actually be pretty good..
i believe part of the scene takes places at superfunds offices on 5th..
and the last actor in the scene is actually Jim Chanos...
take a look
http://www.metro.co.uk/film/840080-michael-douglas-in-new-wall-street-2…
Those clips were meh.
Here's another:
And a couple more:
Hopefully Michael Douglass and all the Wall street personalities can make up for Shia Lebeouf and the dike-y chick playing Gecko's daughter
I really cannot believe they cast her as the "hot" lead actress... such a disappointment.
Should have been Emmanuelle Chriqui.
She would have been too hot to be believable to fall for Shia (though E was able to get Sloan), and a bit old/sophisticated for him.
I seriously don't see that guy's appeal...
well he gets megan fox in transformers...
is sloan hotter than megan fox?
Well seeing as you're using LeDouche's pic, I'm guessing you like the guy's work. Maybe then you can explain to me what's so great about him. Is it the non-threatening 'everyman' look he's got going for him?
Yeah he does get Fox in transformers (however believable that is). But Fox is also his age, at least.
I'm a girl... so my take on who's 'hotter' might be diff from everyone else here (I have a feeling most will vote Fox). My vote's for Emmanuelle Chriqu - I think she's more beautiful/classy.
somebody number these maybe we can piece together the whole movie before it comes out...
i think entourage is finally getting better for this season lol..
i dont think hes all that great...
i just dont think hes bad...
plus,i think its pretty cool how he started day-trading, passed the series, and supposedly immersed himself in finance in order to fully ensure that he played his role well....at least thats what the GQ article said...
he supposedly tried to meet traders as well as Roubini in order to have an educated view on the markets...
anyways,,,more CLIPS,,this is pretty nuts, pretty soon the whole movie will be leaked
http://www.monstersandcritics.com/movies/news/article_1582732.php/More-…
Exactly what is so cool about that? Thats pretty much standard practice for any actor playing whichever type of role role they're playing.
Plus his contention that he turned a $20K portfolio into $489K zaps any credibility along the lines of "learning the markets, submersing himself in the role, and passing the series 7." Anyone who legitimately did any one of those things wouldn't be saying something that stupid.
And he did this after being shown the ropes by some guys in a Schwaab office in Encino. I mean, come the fuck on.
I'm getting tired of people saying that Shia has passed anything or qualified for any certifications.
Those Schwab guys are players...
This kid is going to ruin this movie. Just watched this clip http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEF5Dmjn2U09IF where he insists, "A credit default swap is a good idea, it's the execution that isn't!" And he's telling this to a couple of savvy old wall street insiders. Wow, thanks Shia!
And I watched that Kimmel clip a few weeks ago. Fucking painful to watch. What an arrogant little shit, trying to persuade Kimmel how good he is with the markets while appearing as casual as possible. His little explanation of pork bellies and south america where he says "It's all common sense!" I mean, his act might work on tenth graders, but he comes off as a half-wit who takes himself way too seriously.
Oh, and me three about the androgynous-looking girlfriend. Grow some tits! and let your hair down, you pretentious bitch. The few clips I've seen of her so far make her look like a real drag, too. Stop dampening the wall street fun with your crying about right and wrong and family values.
http://dealbreaker.com/2010/09/jess-and-bess-at-the-movies-money-never-…
Sneak peak 'review' on WS2 on Dealbreaker. Some spoilers... and confirmations of our fears of how terrible this movie will be.
Bess Levin is a goddess.
That was awesome
I was just going to see the movie without paying, but after seeing all the released clips (there are some on Yahoo Movies that were not posted) I am just going to skip it all together. I was literally feeling sick to my stomach just watching some of the scenes.
Oh and can anyone explain that CDS bad execution line? I know that before CDS became cash settled there used to be a run-up on the bonds as everyone had to get them for delivery, but what the hell is La Douche talking about?
Real talk. The biggest issue is that Shia LeBoef (sp?) looks like a 16 year old. Sheen-dawg looked his age (24-25ish). Made all the difference int he world. I just can't buy into Shia the teenager living in some insane apartment making 500K a year. It's non-sense.
Based on the 7.5+ on IMDB so far, this movie will not be as horrid as someone on here thinks. Yes it will not really resemble wall street, and will be over the top but I am sure it will be entertaining.
You have to remember Wall Street the first one, stunk at the box office. Also its hard to make a sequel to such a legendary film.
All this hate and comparing to the original reminds me of when the new star wars started coming out.
My God, that's the kiss of death. Here's hoping even Shia doesn't suck that much ass.
The woman they cast as his gf has dissuaded me from going to see this movie. She looks like a lesbian.
Is this a joke? It has been posted about multiple times. Looks awful, Shia should take a short walk off a tall ledge. It's definitely a rental, at best, for me.
Agreed. Netflix Instant Play at best.
I consider going to see the movie like rubber-necking on the highway. You know what you see is probably going to be unpleasant and bother you, but you can't turn away until you know.
Why do they keep making shiatty remakes of great old movies.
You know what Hollywood. I want to make a remake of the princess bride with Megan Fox playing opposite of Keanu Reeves. Andre the Giant is now the Rock.
Great. Now where's my sack of money?
I am going to go see it tonight I think.
I'd love to go see it, but I wouldn't be able to stand being in the same theatre with all the other people.
I It's too ridiculous/unrealistic. too stupid. Now, Kevin Spacey's Wall Street movie where he plays a senior sell-side trader (unset realease date) sounds fantastic. Supposedly it humanizes the stresses of bankers and traders during the crisis. Demi Moore is the Chief Risk Officer (hopefully like her manager role in Disclosure 1994). I think they use Citi's trading floor for some scenes.
Here is the fundamental problem. Everyone is looking for this movie to be some realistic representation of finance. I don't want to watch that movie. Finance is fucking boring. Lets get real. This movie needs to be unreal to get people to watch it. The first movie was ridiculous also. I always find it funny that so many people attribute Wall Street as their reason to get into banking since it is a movie about a sales guy and a PE/HF manager. Bankers get mentioned once or twice.
Gekko is back. It is about greed. It is about money. It is about Wall Street. 'Nuff said.
I haven't been to a movie theatre since I was like a soph. in High School, and I plan on keeping it that way. I'll order it on the PPV when it comes out.
Cop that shit through torrents or streaming.
Nah, I might do that with porno or music, but when it comes to watching a movie I want it in HD on my flat screen tv. I'll be willing to pay the $4 to get it on demand from Direct TV.
The Businessweek article today was interesting about how Stone did his research.
Just watched it. It was a fucking train wreck. The 'plot' was just a jumbled mess of major crisis events... Oliver Stone decided to include EVERYTHING which resulted in the movie being focused on nothing.
Be warned - there's a lot of cheesy film wipes. Felt like a highschooler's crappy powerpoint presentation...
have watched it. so many hints relating to the giant vampire squid
I saw it the day it came out since I was on vacation. i thought it was going to be TERRIBLE but it was actually decent. Def cheesy with all of the sayings Oliver Stone picked up from Jim Cramer, CNBC, and Bloomberg. It's pretty much a reenactment of what happened in the Credit Crisis, at least at a high level with Gekko involved. I can't believe so many of you guys haven't seen the 1st one (you HAVE to watch that)...I don't care how cool you think are- I thought it was a prerequisite to work in Finance... and to have a poster hanging in your college apt. I'm 25 and watched it for the first time in HS....I've never run across someone on the Street that wasn't familiar with it.
Just left the theater about an hour ago, and honestly I don't know what everyone's complaining about. Let's be serious--it won't be as great as the original. It all depends on your expectations.
A lot of the reviews were actually complaining that Stone wasn't being "angry enough" or it wasn't "intelligent enough." Exactly what the hell are people expecting? I go to the movies to be entertained, not indoctrinated.
I'll be first to admit Shia LaDouche can't act, but when Michael Douglas is still tossing out those awesome one-liners, you forget about Shia pretty quickly. There were a couple terrible lines from Shia's character, but overall I thought the movie was definitely worth seeing. Just my two cents.
