Amazing Moelis Analyst Placement Again
This recruiting cycle that finished a few months ago has yielded great analyst placement for Moelis after its stellar placement last year. From what I know, analysts will be going to Providence Equity, Silver Lake Partners, KKR, Warburg Pincus, and Madison Dearborn.
Some will also be going to hedge funds such as Anchorage, Watershed, and Tennenbaum.
Let me know if I am missing anything from this year.
Last year analysts went to Apollo, TPG, Silver Lake Partners, KKR, and Carlyle.
stop dick riding
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this year was still from former UBS LA crew. I guess we'll see how moelis does next year.
no... those in this "year" (i.e. those entering their 2nd years) were recruited from college campuses. they were not brought from ubs LA.
I think "this class" is talking about the exiting (2nd) year right? Maybe I was just confused.
why does moelis love self-promoting on these boards so much?
moelis hired a lot, op works there.
hello
can someone talk about ubs LA?
I heard 6 kids from regional boutiques got into KKR
What office is this for?
piper jaffray gets KKR i heard too
actually, it's true, i know somebody who went to KKR after a 2 yr analyst stint from Piper
Moelis takes a sh*t ton of people, obviously a select few of them are going to well-known funds. Ask anyone from any top bank and they can laundry list placements as well.
Also, while statistically speaking getting a job at large-cap PE is tough, all they want is someone to crank in front of a model all day and then after 2 years kick you out to the curb again. I would imagine that analysts at Moelis would wso/">suit that job description well, seeing as how it's a total sweatshop.
Moelis is a 3 yr old bank that was started just as the financial crisis was gathering steam. The fact that it can even garner this conversation is impressive. Give it another 10 years and it will be on a whole different level.
Moelis is nowhere near Greenhill Evercore Centerview Perella in terms of m&a dealflow and fees generated. They might have a shitload of senior bankers, but their revenue/head is shit...
Moelis is a complete sweatshop. I feel sorry for the analysts working there.

OK, so I know Moelis gets WAY too much love on these forums, but I'm not here to obsess over them in any way. Since Moelis was founded in July 2007, the first analyst class will finish their two-year stint at the end of June. Does anyone know the placement of any of these guys? It'll obviously be tough to tell if you're not an insider or do not know an insider, but I'm hoping someone does. It's a bit early, but any information is appreciated.
And for more of an opinion question, what do you think will happen to exit ops from Moelis as time goes on? It's certainly still young, but it seems to be developing quite nicely and there is no question it has loads of talent. Will Moelis' exit ops eventually rank with the BBs in a way that elite boutiques like Lazard and Evercore have?
I would say yes (having worked with all levels of bankers from Moelis) but its too early and too difficult in this environment to judge since exit opps have decreased significantly even for top bucket guys.
Won't most of the second year analysts be laterals this year since they didn't have a fresh first year class come in until summer 2008? Probably not a very indicative result until the first class places...
We're working with Moelis' Chicago team and I've been less than impressed thus far...but it's still early on in the process.
Hi,
How long after you have applied for Moelis did you hear back? Has been over a month for me... Is that bad news?
Thanks!
