Any chance to get a boutique ib summer intern if I apply now?
Hello WSO members,
I'm a Junior majoring in finance. My current cumulative GPA is 3.0 and major GPA is 3.7. I know all investment banks have ended their recruiting, so I'm thinking about boutique ib intern or pe intern as alternatives. From what I've researched on the forum, some boutique ib recruit till late spring. I had a pe intern last year outside US so idk if that experience may help. I am very good at excel and self-studied financial modeling and considering the fact that NYC has more opportunities, is there still any chance to get a boutique ib intern for the summer? If so, what should I do? And what should I do for my future investment banking career if I can't successfully get a decent summer internship?
Thank you folks!!
I got my junior year SA spot at a boutique in June. Start firing off some emails.
Bump
If you do anything at all, e.g. shooting out emails, networking on linkedin, calling offices, your probability of landing a SA at a boutique shop is >0. If you do nothing, the probability is 0. Choose wisely.
Thanks for your advice. May I ask what do you mean by a "SA" ? Is it Sales & Administration?
Giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming you are not a troll, SA stands for Summer Analyst which is what "internships" are called in the IBD world.
I'd definitely suggest doing a tad bit more research on this forum as it is a goldmine with information such as, what SA means, but much more bigger inputs for info. Best of luck!
As everyone else mentioned, the worst thing you can do is to not do anything at all. Some small shops might still be hiring (both across ibanking and PE). Start reaching out. That being said, if you don't get any traction within one month, broaden your reach and apply to a more diversified industry group. You can always try to make your way back into ibanking for full time hiring.
Thank you. I'm really new at networking(even on LinkedIn) so could you please let me know who (what position? Alumni HR managers? Alumni analysts?) should I network with?
I had to do this recently in changing jobs. It's uncomfortable at first but you will soon get used to it. Start reaching out to analysts (they will be the ones vouching for you and putting your resume forward). As for alumni, focus on whoever you can find whose job is directly related to what you seek. You will be surprised by how many will take the time to get back to you. I wouldn't waste time with HR managers because so many people reach out to them already, and they aren't always familiar with the specific teams' needs
Hey guys. Should I continue applying for internships online at websites such as inernships.com, glassdoor.com etc.? Or are online applications simply a waste of time?
