Best Books for Financial Restructuring

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what people would recommend as the best books to understand financial restructuring. I have had no experience in restructuring, so please suggest anything with a beginner in mind.

Thanks!

When I was going through restructuring interviews, one analyst recommended "The Vulture Investors" - never read it so I can't comment on the usefulness.

I second HLHZ's restructuring piece that azwethinkweiz linked above. It's not going to teach you all the ins and outs, but it's a pretty good read to introduce you to the whole process.

Moyers book is available in PDF if you just google it. However, I would highly suggest buying the Moyers book if you're going to buy at least one DD book - it's extremely useful. Another good option I'm currently on is "Corporate Financial Distress and Bankruptcy" by Altman

For further suggestions, just look at the reading list on: distressed-debt-investing.com

And, distresseddebtinvestorsclub.com - for distressed/ssits/event driven investment theses.

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for freedom of thought which they seldom use.

Thanks for the additional tips. Will look into the online resources.

Can't seem to find the PDF by googling - Any chance you have it available?

If you do buy the Moyer book, get an international edition via abebooks.com rather than the >$100 US version. Content is the same, price is radically different. Money goes to Bezos in both cases.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Also try Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Restructurings; Patrick A. Gaughan

For modeling: Investment Banking by Rosenbaum and Pearl provides step by step instruction; great if you have no modeling experience (if you buy the book, it provides links to pre-built models)

DE PAMPHILIS, Mergers, Acquisitions, and Other Restructuring Activities

I'm grateful that I have two middle fingers, I only wish I had more.

You can also check out Damodaran's work if your interested in the theory behind valuations etc.

Also, there are several members on here that have training files of banks. Try a search and PM them.

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

Also for Damodaran, he posts his MBA classes (valuation & Corp Fin) online for free. http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home_Page/home.htm

Also mentioned was Distressed Debt Analysis by Moyer... This is great. It gives you the basics of distressed companies and restructuring considerations.

Also I have heard, Creating Value Through Corporate Restructuring by Gilson is good, but have never read it.
