Boston University Economics Major
Hi all,
I go to Boston University and currently major in a mix of economics, mathematics, and computer science. My current GPA is exactly a 3.85.
As some of you may know, Boston University offers an undergraduate program in business at its School of Management.
In terms of breaking into Wall Street, investment banking, and future career outlook should I remain in the College of Arts in Sciences majoring in econ, math, and comp sci or switch over to the School of Management?
I prefer the College of Arts and Science over the School of Management because I eventually want to get an M.B.A. from a top ten school.
Any advice or insight you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

To give you a short answer, the material you're learning is more challenging, but you want to try and a) get access to the limited recruiting that is on campus, b) the alumni network, and c) learning the basic accounting principles you'll see in interviews.
BU's econ department is solid, have you looked into the BA/MA program? The Masters Econ students place very well into BBs.
Not a huge representation in banking but BU does have a fair share of bankers out there and they do a good job of networking with each other. Definitely take 2-3 courses in accounting, even if it's just like night school or something on top of your regular work load. Will help you out tremendously. I took a year of accounting as a liberal arts / econ major and wish I took more even to this day.
When you say mix, what do you mean? I know that BU has a Econ & Math double-major program and one could feasibly minor in CS there...
Sorry -- I should have defined mix more clearly.
I am a double major in econ/math and minoring in computer science.
I think BU alums are school-blind when it comes to helping out undergrads - don't worry about picking up a SMG major, maybe minor in business if you're interested in the coursework.
Signed, A BU Grad
Agreed.
