Coffee chat with Senior Managing Partner - how should ask for a first round?

Hi, I'm a rising junior from a semi-target. I'm very interested in Evercore, but Evercore barely hires from our school. I recently found out we have an alum joined Evercore as a Senior Managing Director for a year, and I just cold emailed him. I was super lucky, this MD agreed to grab coffee with me. I'm wondering how should network with him during our coffee chat and get my first-round. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, community!

Let it come up organically in conversation. If you come out and just ask if there is anyway you can get a first interview, it will probably come off a little strong. If I were you I would thank them first for taking the time to meet with you. Then I would ask some general questions about their job. Finally, talk about their time at your school; people love to talk about themselves. By the end thank them and casually ask if there is anyone they think you should talk to. By agreeing to meet with you they kinda know what's good, like meeting someone on tinder...its goin down. They will however not push your resume forward if you are an idiot, so make sure to know your technicals and your basic fit questions, like why IB why his firm and what you know about their recent stuff. He's not gonna stick his neck out for someone who cannot answer a few basic questions and end up embarrassing him. If you come across as an intelligent person they will probably say at the end of the conversation how they are going to help. You are in a good position though, relax and be yourself and know who you are and what you want both long and short term and why.
