companies don't even bother rejecting you after interviews
In normal times, HR had the decency to reach out to candidates who had face to face interviews and tell them if they are still in the running or not. I interviewed for a position a month ago and they never got back to me. I was told that I would hear back by the end of the week. I followed up and got a rejection. Same thing happened again recently where I never heard back after patiently waiting. They just don't care but it would be appreciated if they would at least send a rejection email or something to people who took the time to go into the office dressed up in a suit and tried their best.

Agree with OP. When I haven't heard from the interviewer after a week I kind of expect to not get an answer at all. Very irritating.
Let me help you: If you don't hear back after a while, you got dinged. They don't owe you anything. So while I agree it is a nice courtesy to alert rejected candidates this is not at all uncommon. And, let me tell you it has nothing to do with the times except maybe that less people were getting dinged in 07 when more positions were available.
On a more positive note, I waited a month to hear back at my current job that I advanced to the next round. You really never know how the process is working on the other side so don't lose faith but also after a week or two and an ignored follow up, you should be able to infer the situation.
during the month that you waited to hear back, did you follow up and ask for the status?
Yes I sent an email after about two weeks and the response came two weeks later as an invitation to the final rd.
I hear Duff & Phelps still have not alerted candidates after NYC superday 3 weeks ago
Duff & Phelps is shit. Interviewed with them and the process took over 3 months. They flew me out to 2 different office locations (spread over a month) for what I thought were final round interviews. Called me about 1 month later saying they were still interviewing candidates and would let me know once they finished. I accepted a different job offer as I want nothing to do with a professional service company that takes over 3 months for an interview process. Even Google's interview process was shorter and they are notorious for being extremely bureaucratic
Google's interview process is fast as hell if you already had an offer, I went from inital screen to mountain view in less than 3 weeks.
Just focus on studies after the interview. What keeps happening to me is that the more I think about the interview/did I get rejected etc the longer they take. As soon as I mentally go screw it if they want me they can have me I get a reply! Haha try that. :)

I feel you man. The way to think about it is, if you havn't heard after a couple of weeks, assume you get rejected, maybe follow up after a month, but expect nothing of it.
Agreed that Duff and Phelps is shit. Talent there is laughable and oftentimes usually the third or fourth person on the list takes the offer because everyone else leverages the D&P offer to try to get something better and then reneges.
They've done one M&A deal this year and it's only because they acquired Pagemill Partners who are killing it.
Looking on the bright side, if they haven't formally rejected you, you can still truthfully tell other employers that you are interviewing there.
Happens all the time. Of ALL the interviews I had (mostly MMs and one BB) I was never outright rejected and had to follow up every week until it was week 4 - 6 that I knew of my decision.
In one recent top MM I interviewed with... no answer from ANYONE. I was probably a filler or backup spot...
They probably liked you and had you as a backup. Our group does that where we go radio silent for a little while until our 1st choices decide.
Yeah, but a part of that also has to do with the fact that I'm a non-target so they decide to fuck me with me as much as they want. I also get the feeling that I just interviewed for backup spots from the beginning...
