Dealing with Early Offer
Hi everyone,
I'm primarily interested in interning in banking this summer. I'm not set on it as a career path, but depending on my summer experience I may chose to return full-time. As you all know, the banks primarily recruit for internships second semester. However, I currently have an offer that's a bit off the beaten path: working as a summer analyst at a secondary venture capital fund.
The offer itself is comparable to IB internship offers in terms of compensation, although that's hardly a factor in my decision. The firm is on the West coast and is rather small; I'd probably be one of only a few interns. They would like me to make a decision before winter break. Although this sounds like a cool experience, and I'd probably learn a lot, I'd like to at least have the opportunity to see what banks I may fit in with and where I could get offers. I don't think this firm will give me an extension, though I'll certainly ask. I should add that I think I stand at least a decent chance at a banking offer. I go to a target school, I have a relevant major, a high GPA, decent campus involvement, and I've made the rounds this semester in terms of networking. What do you guys suggest?
Thanks!
Take the offer then renege if you get a good banking offer. Unless of course the VC firm is legit.
Make sure that the internship could turn into full-time employment after graduation. If it can't then you might want to try for a banking internship that can.
Isn't it really bad to pull back an acceptance?
