Does anyone know if SA for BNP IBD is filled?? Phone interview tomorrow.

I applied for BNP Paribas IBD SA program by getting someone higher up in the NYC office to do an internal referral for me (He is not in IBD though) and got an e-mail my application was under review just a few days ago.

Then I got an e-mail today arrange a phone interview for tomorrow with someone from structured finance. Is it just me or is structured finance completely different from IBD?

Why would someone from Structured Finance be calling me for an interview when I only applied for IBD?

Anyone that can help please. Did anyone already get into their IBD SA program already? I'm non-target and I know I'm only getting my resume even glanced at because of networking and I know I would be after all the targets so I'm worried I never even had a shot at IBD.

For the general public - Structured Finance is a product group, generally under DCM, which is a part of the investment bank. More vanilla Structured Finance products include MBS, CMBS, Aircraft ABS, Auto ABS.. can also get more esoteric with whole business securitization, Bowie Bonds, etc.

OP - I've PM'd you.

Ok so at least it IS investment banking but BNP Paribas website has Structured Finance and Corporate Finance separated and Corporate Finance is where I want to be.

What should I do?

I'm worried that they either filled up all the IBD summer slots or I was just not good enough for Corporate Finance (non-target, medium GPA, but lots of good M&A boutique internships) and they are giving me an interview for Structured Finance to please the person that referred me. :(

I know some kid at my uni that got a SA slot for Citi in Global Transaction Services and then got FT for debt financing in the investment bank can that happen for IBD or will being a Structured Finance SA basically kill my chances of working in M&A? (Like doing operations SA or PWM SA and then trying to get in IBD FT which I heard almost never ever happens)

Not necessarily true, a friend of a friend interned in Product Control (Finance) and got a FT IBD offer at a BB. I don't know what he did, but everyone keeps saying he had really strong networking, or he went down on someone for the offer lol.

Everybody has a plan, until they get punched in the face.
