Evercore energy group interview

hey guys..new to the site here.

been invited to interview for a superday for Evercore's houston office. the position would be a lateral hire, told me i would start as a first year.

trying to get a sense of what their group is like. curious what kind of technicals they might ask, whether they will expect me to know much about the midstream space? i currently work at a lower tier energy group (johnson rice, Canaccord, etc) and haven't gotten much modeling experience; definitely havent been involved in any midstream transactions like the southern union deal they are advising on now.

any advice at all would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!!

How far into your first year are you now?

People tend to think life is a race with other people. They don't realize that every moment they spend sprinting towards the finish line is a moment they lose permanently, and a moment closer to their death.

You should see some basic accounting questions, DCF, etc. May ask you about o&g specific merger models, industry headlines, industry specific valuation metrics, etc.

I would know the difference between full cost & successful efforts accounting. Look at the deals they have done, and get familiar with the basins/regions, as well as similar transactions. I would be prepared to talk about oil prices & dollar strength, libya, strategic petroleum reserve releases....

Personally don't know much about the EVR office, but hope this helps.
