Is State Street as bad as everyone says?
I don't know of anyone personally that has worked there, but all I have came across on Google is that they pay like shit and there is no room for advancement.
Anyone have anything to say about these guys?

Do you mean State Street Global Capital Markets, State Street Global Advisors?--because the asset management arm SSgA is second only to BlackRock in terms of AUM and it's a solid place to work in Boston.
But if you mean NAV Specialist in Braintree or wherever, you're right.
their global services (securities/treasury services) division is also one of the best in the business and competes with jpm, bny and such.. back-office jobs are terrible for advancement no matter what firm you work at
I believe this is for their Midwest location, primarily Kansas City, not sure if positions in Chi (which I know is a Global Advisors branch).
Don't do back office, seriously. I know -- if you can't help it, fine. I walked away from a SAC presentation after they tried to sell me "finance" and "tech" -- and then the woman said, "honestly, it's all back office. I know you don't want this."
Try to look at other AM firms: Pimco, BlackRock, even Wellington, etc.
The office in Kansas City does mostly back and some middle office type work.

What do you think of state street and equities trading? How does it rank with other big trading companies or BB trading department? How prestigious is it?
Bump ; would also like to know about their research.
Not 'prestigious' whatever that means.

Has anyone applied to state street? Any one got an interview? What are your thoughts on the company as a whole? What is the Global markets division like?
yah. You talkin' internship or FT?
I applied to the FLDP thing they have and had a superday recently. SSGM is aight, no prop trading, but does a lot of market making and stuff. The company as a whole is a pretty conservative and clunky custody bank but has a lot of different branches. Their AM(global advisors) division is a top ten asset manager with around 2 trill AUM, and they recently rolled out a new analytics focused division called SS global exchange. They're also pretty big in the service provider game through SS global services and they do a lot of MO and BO service outsourcing.
