Metals & Mining Primer

Hi Monkeys,

I’m currently on M&A looking to join metals and mining team. Basically done 0 metals/mining deal and know very little about the industry. Assuming I have no clue about the industry, just wondering if there is any industry primer/must read I should spend time on?

I found WSO and M&I’s mining investment banking guides, as well as UBS’ Mining and Steel Primer (2011 latest), CS’ Metals & Mining Industry Primer (2011 latest), BMO’s Global Metals & Mining Book (2020 latest) useful, but they could be a little bit old. I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Hey OP! I got a Citi primer dating back to 2011. Its oriented really more towards the operational aspects of M&M, i.e. Geo, reserves, metallurgy, the metals themselves and their uses, common extraction methods, cost structures, etc. I am joining an M&M team as an intern in January, so I am also looking for as much M&M info as possible. Let me know if you are interested in exchanging docs or even having chat!
