I go to St. Thomas. If I cold call Piper, HLHZ, and Harris Williams do you think they'd consider bringing on an intern for the fall? I don't see any formal programs on their websites. I am just wondering if cold calling is a waste of my time or not.

If you cold call them, it'll at least put you on the radar but you better have almost perfect fucking grades if you're coming from St. Thomas. I took a few classes there to round off my finance skills and got As in all of them, except a derivatives class where I got an A-, or something like that.

Your best chance is to work yourself in through a connection. I interned with one of the aforementioned banks on can attribute my luck to alumni connections.

Without that internship I wouldn't have landed at a BB at all, I can guarantee that.

Also try Agio-Goldsmith (sp?). I know they take interns on a regular basis.

Good luck.

Piper has a good rep as MM. It's a tradeoff...not the same name recognition on your resume as a BB, but they are great at what they do, and have better work-life balance

How much do you think grades matter for classes outside of your major? I have all A's in my finance/accounting classes and all A's except one A- in my econ classes. Yet my overall is only a 3.6 (I wasn't the world's best french student). Is this good enough to get looked at?

They are a good choice too. Grades matter a ton especially if you are from St. Thomas. you need at least a 3.6 for anything decent. Piper would consider an intern for fall because I got offered a summer internship that extended into the year but had to decline b/c I go to school in NYC. I hear Piper sucks though. Everybody at dain rails on them so much because many used to work there.
