Need to decide my carrier..
I am going to start my MBA (finance). I am choosing Finance field due to large demand for this sector. But I am not sure which direction I should go in Finance sector. From internet I found IB is one of demanding field. But at the same time one has to work atleast 80-100 hr per week. Can anyone tell me how many hours you are working per week. What are the other areas ae good in MBA-Finance field?
carrier?
DHL - same domestic service as Fed Ex and UPS, but a lot less expensive.
Cingular has the least dropped calls out of any carrier. They're a safe bet. Heard they're gonna carry the new iPhone too.
is right - forget DHL, go with Cingular. Free mobile-to-mobile, or so I'm told.
Sorry man, I don't think Cingular services India. Shoulda thought about that. I think Reliance is probably the best carrier for you. Those Ambani boys and their fighting has created a win-win situation for you.
You guys are idiots..lol
So wrong....
hahaha....nice.
the hottest area to be in right now is IT support.
GS/MS, big drop, ML/Citi et all...and if you cant break into the BB don't sweat it. Geek squad is totally legit too
Agreed. Drop the MBA idea and go learn SAP. Really hot field and I think it's going to be burning hot for at least another 40 years until you retire.
The original is still the best. No dropped calls, no ugly brown trucks, just dirty birds
this question is way too basic for this site.
Go read the vault guide to investment banking, other threads that have answered this question, and just some general research.
Not meaning to be a jerk, but you should have a much better clue about what jobs are out there before thinking about an MBA. Also, choosing your career based on "what's hot" without knowing about it at all is not a good plan on average.
You guys are bad. So bad.
At least you saved me the trouble.
Do you MBA in Finance
Then come to London or NYC and open up an Indian restaurant....with your newly learnt finance skills and appreciation of tax legislation etc you will out-do all the Hussains/Patels/Singhs currently in the trade when it comes to tax evasion - yours will be the most profitable of all.....
Remember also, if you want to claim state benefits, then there is no better place than England....
We could help you name your place too.....
Any suggestions guys?
From the ghetto....
raj, the kind of shit you are getting for mispelling a word...everyone else must not only know multiple other languages, but also must be profecient in their spellings.
Ironically you are probably smarter than 90% of folks in this forum, but you got one BIG flaw going against you. You can't spell some words in your fourth language. Shit man, maybe IB is not for you.
Seriously though, IB is a lot of hours, and can certainly use smart people like you. In my view, if you can take the hours, IB is definitely a top field if you do your MBA in finance. You have to get into a top MBA program though, for a serious shot. Again, you will probably score more in your GMAT than most people around. Good luck
If he would have misspelled "career as "carerr" it would have been no big deal, but since he misspelled it as a real word with a different meaning ("carrier") it made it comical...not insulting.
Maybe ghosht actually does have a sense of humor since he misspelled the words "mispelling" (he only used 1 "s") and profecient ("i" not "e")....although for all we know maybe his screen name is really supposed to be "ghost" and not "ghosht"
Smart or not, first language or 5th, if I a typo like that were not show up in an IB pitch somebody would be burned at the stake (or is it "steak") LOL
Touche` (sp?) LOL.
the person with no sense of humor shows up.
Raj, the truth is that, while we were having a little fun at your expense, and that wasn't very nice, communication skills and thick skin are the two most important attributes for banking. Financial modeling / analytical skill may be important as well, but anyone can learn how to do that work. From my experience, most international students at American MBA programs fall short when applying for banking jobs because of the communication gap. This is absolutely not to say that it can't be done, only that it's a lot harder than understanding WACC and ratios. So, I apologize for poking fun at your original message, but I hope the humor underscores the importance of significantly enhancing your communication ability before trying to get into banking.
raj, learn to spell, maatherchod. spell it with me now: c-a-r-e-e-r.
and do not choose a "carrier" path coz it's hot right now, so hot. pick something you love. that will help you deal with the fluctuations in the market. don't be like every other desi and go into engineering/comp sci/medicine/finance/accounting just coz its what your daddy wants or coz there's money in it.
your daddy probably wants you to be an engineer, but i know as well as you do, that all you wanna do is dance.
Daler Mehndi for the win! What the world needs is more Indian dancing.
Daler Mehndi is a stupid retard....
Ms Ind, would you like to do friendship?
Oh, well. I adore him. I can get my fiance to do the little dance but he won't/can't sing the songs. Sigh.
Sure, Chod. Let's do it.
hey here's a fun fact: Daler Mehndi was charged with a case for illegally immigrating people into the United States....
Why all the hate for Daler Mehndi? Geez, man, lighten up.
Besides, many Americans are descended from illegal immigrants. I have a male ancestor who reportedly snuck on board a ship in Liverpool in 1764 to get over here. No papers, no green card, no indenture. Totally illegal. And a few years later he was an officer in the war for American independence.
So, you know, it doesn't take long for an illegal immigrant to become a pillar of the community, a soldier, or even a statesman. So I still like Dahler Mehndi, even if you're correct and he does bring immigrants over.
we got frats in our school rocking out to daler songs. And its a pretty preppy school at that. try listening to 'rang de basanti'. Folks @ my school love it.
Hello my friends, I have to admit that I didn't pay much attention before I post a topic. But I do know that if I misspelled I always have chance to correct it. I do not afraid to admit. I like some one to point out my mistakes. But some of you need to realize that by trying to make fun of some one shows (who ever trying to make fun of me) you do not have character. Once you loose your character (sorry to talk something which you do not have) you will not get back in your life. Some of you trying to make fun of me. But you need to realize that to be a successful person you need to have determination, confidence, respect others and constantly improve your self. I am afraid to say that some of you don't have any qualities. Rather worrying about me and trying to make fun of me, first think about you. Before point other mistakes with your finger do not forget there are always 3 more fingers pointing towards you. On the other hand some of you gave wonderful suggestions. I appreciate your helping nature. I have to admit that I am planning to start my MBA from Jan 2008. I am trying to collect information from different sources well ahead. During my search I came across this form and submit post with basic questions. I started posting my questions through this form as a starting point for my quest. I am admitting that I am new unlike some stupid in this form acting like they know everything and trying to make fun of me. Guys if you really want to make fun of some..Here is a suggestion for you. Go to your home and stand in front of mirror and you will see a big idiot and you can make fun of him/her. This forum started to help people not to make fun of others. If others do not know something try to share what you know and help them.
Peace..
I'd love to go home and make fun of myself in the mirror, but I have to work 20 hours a day...maybe I can make fun of myself in the bathroom mirror at work.
Look...bankers are on this board to take an occasional break from their stressful day. A little humor really helps a lot. I doubt anybody meant it as personal affront..as you did notice, many people actually responded.
Smart to be doing your research early, however, I would highly recommend looking through the forums before starting a new thread, this type of stuff is in the forums 100 times over. people here are doing you a favor to answer, so respect their time and look around before asking a question. That's all
Ouch. Dude, I know everyone hurt you. I'm sorry to tell you, though: you need near-flawless English to work in IB in America. Your verb tenses don't agree, your supporting verbs are incorrect or occasionally missing, you sometimes substitute adjectives for nouns, and some of your verbs are mysteriously missing their nouns. This is beyond simple sloppiness... it goes into incomplete comprehension of the language. There's not much you can do with that, as you couldn't write pitchbook copy or be counted on to correctly decipher some of the cryptic emails and markups you'd be getting in IBD.
Also, you'll need to work on handling being made fun of if you're truly dedicated to becoming an i-banker. If you have a thick accent, chances are it'll be made fun of, just like any other weakness in i-banking.
It sounds to me like you're just exploring, though, not wholly dedicated. Perhaps i-banking is not for you? The hours are brutal and, as you have accurately pointed out, we do not have character.
Very true and has to be said...
However something tells me that raj will see this as a challenge though and push forward.
Anyway raj, good luck with whatever you do.
raj, language(and so, the ability to communicate) is, incontestably, the most important determinant of long term success in business and commerce. leadership and teamwork--sought-after qualities--are derivatives of communication. instead of taking things personally, I would pick up a bloody grammar book and read/write my ass off for a few months until I could speak english like i could hindi or whatever the heck it is you speak. stop speaking your native language unless its absolutely necessary. start with that. that will probably be your highest yielding investment--at least if you want to work in north america.
-captain obvious
tunak tuank tun tunak tunak tun tunak tunak tun tararara
I love that dance he does when he's singing Tunak Tunak Tun. And the cheesy 80's fx.
My suggestion was serious....
The financial markets are volatile man.....
But everyone needs to eat.......
My retirement plan is a restaurant.....
I think I will call it 'Raj: Indian cuisine for the discerning financier'
I will get a property in the City and be a rich fat curry selling Pak (I am allowed to call myself a Pak - no debate on this).
Don't you know how much these places take? Especially when you get the right mix of illegal immigrants in the kitchen and Eastern European waitresses.......
From the ghetto....
i just looked up the video on youtube after ya'll kept talking about it and it is pretty sweet. if you've never seen it here is the link definately check it out
