Ops - Student at non-target

So, I have been thinking lately about the lovely world of operations. As a student at a non target, where the only pro is that it is in NYC, I have concluded that regardless of GPA and networking skills, it seems that out side of three PWM offers at BB banks, I can not seem to get into what I want. In a perfect world I would hold out and keep diggin. My issue is that as a guy who spent 8 years in the Marines and who has a family of 4, I need to make some decisons quickly.

My question is, how exactly does someone get into ops? Does anyone think that it might be a better idea to get into ops rather than PWM? I have had a few VPs and an MD ask me if with my background if I had looked into a career in operations. I know some people who work ops at JPM and Citi, and they seem to be well compensated. When I look for ops jobs, it seems nothing is availbe or requires a history of CS or math in college....any help?

ops...as long as you have a good personality....you dont need any technical skills starting off....best way to go about might be to check out the big banks, and see where some off site (off wall st) offices are....and email/cold call there

is cold calling BB and boutiques the best way to get into Ops? Do these jobs require internships in these departments? Not sure how to get a track. If cold calling is the best, then cold calling it will be.

Thanks for the input guys
