Hey guys, so I'm final year student in the UK studying Accounting and finance with international year at a non-target. I'm onto a first class, and I have some decent sporting achievements from years back and little financial work experience, (only 1 week in local accounting firm), I have had other jobs but totally different to finance- like hospitality summer job. I also was part of the university society as a stock research analyst .
I know it is almost impossible to break into IB, but I wanted to know if you guys have any advice to put a foot in at least. I'm interested in a top tier masters programme, but was not sure if it's worth it at the moment and instead I should apply for internships after I graduate and then with some better experience, go for a top masters or even a different role and then move into IB ??
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

The consensus is that you at least need some finance work experience to get into ib even if your at a target, it won't excuse your lack of experience. Realistically speaking, you should hedge your bets into mo or other industries. The question is if a master program would propel you into such industries.

I think it's a worth a shot 2 years down the line, you would get a brand name plus you have the chance to network with your alumni base.

If you enroll now, you could possibly enter IB through networking, likely it's not bb or eb unless you have crazy connections that bridges your lack of experience and talent for the business but don't count on it.

Tldr: wait 2 years or until sufficient experience then apply for masters and subsequently, IB internships

Thanks for your comment and analysis. I think I agree with you on the points you have made. I feel its worth a shot to try. I will work on getting some kind of financial work experience and look to applying for a top masters. But yeah will also realistically look at plan Bs for other roles in the business if it does not work out.
