Hirevue acts as a first round and then straight to superday. Hirevue is all behavioral and the goal should be genuine passion/interest in SMBC, its mission, and its global presence, as well as just being a genuinely interesting person.

SD is pretty straight forward with several back to back interview with people from different groups ranging from analyst to MD.

Don’t know if Hirevue is auto or exclusively given.

Turnaround between Hirevue to SD can be quite long.

Networking helps too

Echo everything from Silly_Goose. SMBC moved up recruiting timeline substantially this year so will not be in Fall as in previous years. Attending events and viewing the "Desk Overviews" is highly highly recommended, and tracked, but network as needed.

Imo, it's really strange that they pushed the timelines so far forward. I'm not sure when they'll actually kick off with interviews, but realistically they should know they aren't going to be poaching talent from banks that have an actual advisory presence in the US. They'll get pretty substandard interns, and/or have a ton of people renege and have to open up applications again in the late summer/fall (when they used to recruit).

Generally only hire interns if have capacity for FT. Only scenario where that wasn't the case I can recall is summer 23' when DCM team had low return #s

did my spd this week. pretty easy. no technical questions and just big focus on "why SMBC?" and expanding on your resume.

Not that I know of but looking at LinkedIn seems like Lev Fin and Capital Markets are out

It was fairly easy. Overall, I'd say it went well, and they said I would hear back soon. But that was Thursday and I haven't heard back yet (RIP)
