Social Life of a Summer Analyst
Can anyone comment on the non technical aspects of the SA experience? Did you all get close to the other interns working at your bank and go out/party together? did you have time to see nyc? For those who lived in student dorms, did you meet a lot of people that way?
I ask these questions because moving to nyc this summer, I dont really know anyone in the city and look forward to meeting other summer analysts while im there.
you likely won't meet people living in the dorms, way too many other people there doing random things, and lots of NYU students. you'll naturally make many friends (assuming you're not socially retarded....) due to training, seminars, lectures etc and all the other useless crap they plan for you during the day. only piece of advice i have is to live in a furnished sublet over the summer if you can. a) they end up being cheaper than the dorms b) you don't get kicked out the last week of your internship c) it's WAY more fun.
hahaha excellent point. what are good websites for sublets other than craigslist? I would rather not end up being raped or maimed trying to find a place to crash every night over the summer.
Dont underestimate Craigs List, I'm 3 for 3 on there. Most people that are trying to scam you are fucking retarded, i.e. the guy who sent a PM on this website. If they type coherently, show pictures, and are relatively quick with e-mail and phone calls you are headed in the right direction. Sure, there can be a risk but generally you should be able to smell it when shit is in the air.
craigslist has been pretty bomb for me with regards to sublets/temporaries. i give it a thumbs up
I personally of the mindset that summer internship is to get an offer back. Stay motivated and focused on whats important during this summer.
I agree with the idea of staying motivated to get a summer offer, but personally, I find that to be much easier when I'm not living in a moldy, unairconditioned dorm ....You still gotta live.
Re: craiglist, ditto what everyone else said on here. It's the BEST way to find apartments and def sublets in the city. I've been living here for two + years and have an amazing rental deal in a brand new building in the EV ... found it on CL. We sublet one of the rooms in our place to an intern last summer who we ... found on CL. Plus, among the various boards on the site, the sublet and for rent by owner are the least sketchy by far. If you have a buddy in NYC, have them go check out various listings for you - if not, just get here 3 -4 days early (that's plenty) and find one. Make sure you sign a sublessor's agreement (You can print them off the internet) and for safety, have it notarized at any bank (any jpm chase branch in the city will have a notary public). That way, no matter what happens, your liability is limited.
go to Dorians
Come on, don't tell these people about dorrians
don't count on a social life, its 10 weeks out of your life and you could secure a spot in a career of your liking, if you find that this is what you want to do after school. Just put on that game face and put that social life on hiatus until August
no wonder i only got to know traders in my previous internships. thats becos bankers have no life. lol. jk, jk.

Hey everyone,
I'm a junior at Cornell doing an SA stint at BAML in NY and I was wondering what it's like going out in the summer and stuff? What happens after you get a FT offer? Does everyone still keep in touch with college friends or is it a new group once you hit wall street? Thanks.
Summer in NYC = hot girls in short skirts EVERYWHERE
^ true dat
Mix, some guys keep hanging out with college friends, some form new social circles. Given you go to Cornell lots of your friends will also be moving to the city, so you'll probably end up veering more towards the hanging out with college friends end of the spectrum.
or you can make NEW friends, BETTER friends hahahaha
from where your analyst class?
Or make it with the hot girls in short skirts lol
Unrelated note re: your username. Blumpkins are way overhyped.
^^^ I tend to agree as well. Truth is, most haven't experienced. So overhyped, but underused
