Tech Summer Intern in London, GS or UBS?
I've got 2 offers from GS and UBS for London summer intern in Technology. I intend to stay on whichever bank I do my intern. So can some1 help me decide which should I join? Here are some facts: - UBS is paying higher. - UBS gives 25 holidays, GS gives 18. - UBS intern is from 25/6-31/8, GS is 21/6-31/8. - GS gives 2 month training in NY, UBS doesn't. However, I'm still concerned about few problem - Will the reputation/prestigious affect my future careers (CV for later if I wanna move)? (If I'm not mistaken, GS is always No.1, while UBS is somewhere between No.5-10 - Is it any more difficult to get an offer from GS than from UBS? Cuz I don't want to spend another 2 months to apply, interview, etc... again. - Is it any easier to get along, get help from others in UBS than in GS?

Do you mean tech group within IBD, or tech as in IT?
Im assuming you are not referring to an investment banking job. If that is the case, then i would say take the GS offer. That being said, i know 3 interns that worked at GS as a "tech" intern. They all hated it and tried getting into a division at UBS. None of them returned.
However, GS is one of the strongest line items you can have on your resume. I do not think they have a tech internship in NYC for UBS. They just have an IT program, which is more modeling than anything else. Not much programming.
I would also suggest that UBS, in general, is a better place to work. I had an offer to work with GS and UBS for full time IBD, and i took UBS. it's just a better place to start. I would love to join GS if it was at a later stage in my life... timing is everything

I don't really get you? U said all 3 interns hate it, but suggest me to take GS offer? I know that, but how much different does that make, compare to UBS? Can you tell me why it's better and why better place to start?Thanks..
wouldnt GS be a better place to start just because of prestige and employers in the future might value GS more?
As someone who has done a number of tech internships in his time: Take the one you will enjoy and develop your skills the most. From what you have said, I'd take UBS hands-down. If it isn't financially related, having GS on your resume isn't great. In fact, I bet you most of the technical people out there couldn't tell you the difference from GS and UBS. Besides, the key is really to build your skills and you want a friendly environment to do that in (higher paid too)!
Thanks CompBanker, but the concern that I have is as spectzix said, will the reputation affect much on my CV between working for UBS and GS? Also, when you said "you want a friendly environment to do that in ", do u mean that the environment in GS is not very friendly then?
Too be honest, I'm not quite sure about the environment at either place. I've heard nothing but good things about UBS and the way they treat their people. People here also seem to have had negative experiences with GS people (at least that is the impression I seem to be getting).
To be honest, I really don't think the reputation of GS is any better than UBS if you're going to have a technical role. If you're looking for prestiege you should be looking for positions at Microsoft, Google, IBM, or other such tech giants.
A mate of mine started at GS in IT a few months ago and he says it's amazing. He gets "all the freedom and responsibilities he can cope with plus a supportive team".
Take this with a pich of salt since I'm talking about London, but people always say GS has a companywide culture (unlike other firms that are more group specific).
GS is no. 1 worldwide, but not quite no. 1 in London.
Besides, they are no. 1 only if you're measuring things like M&A. If you're going for tech, UBS is big enough that I wouldn't worry. Even if this were for IB, I'd look at what sort of deals a person's worked on.
