Should also add Raine.
Oppenheimer Tech
Wut? Lol
you have piper and Sandler, Lincoln twice, and Stifle….
This exercise is very misguided. Your definition of MM seems to only imply M&A deal size. Probably better to at least consider balance sheet banks vs advisory. It’s hard to compare a Fifth Third to a Baird / HL. They wouldn’t consider themselves competitors or even peers.
They have an m&a group, but sure what space they place in
Sure they do, but they're really LMM. They don't compete with the top tier MMs unless they've done a couple of deals in a subvertical or niche.
More MMs/BSBs: BBVA, BMO, BNP, Credit Agricole, HSBC, Macquarie, Mizuho, MUFG, Nomura, PNC, RBS, Scotiabank, Socgen, TDS, Truist.
In the MM space a lot of banks have standout product or coverage groups that they're especially well known for and other groups which struggle to find deal flow or are just relationship/syndication driven - which is great if that is what you're looking for but just be aware before going in. This key difference in groups can really alter your experience which is why its really hard to rank the entire brand itself. However, if you do your research it can actually lead you to finding some pretty underrated groups.
How many of those banks listed actually win North American M&A mandates? BMO, Macquarie and Truist are the only ones I've actually seen pitching.
Fair enough, but some of the more underrated groups could be in levfin/dcm/structured products or certain coverage groups, or maybe even dipping into a derivatives desk within s&t. I know winning m&a mandates guides a lot of deal flow but since it usually isn't the top group at most of these places prospects should be open to alternatives out there.
is Jeff #1 on this list? Or are they not considered “mm”
If they are they would be.
what about gugg and roths? i know roths is really strong like comparable to WB
What about gugg or roths?

All this ranking stuff is stupid as each one likely has some pro that the others don't. But anyways my opinion-RBC, HL, HW, Lincoln, Blair, Piper, Oppenheimer, citizens//Cowen, Baird, RJ, stifel, stephens, Key, raine, fifth third, stout
