UAE for banking

Is there a specific reason why the UAE does get any attention when it comes to finance? How’s the compensation, work life balance, exit ops compared to NYC, London, Toronto?

Comp is great, same as London but no taxes. Hours can be long, but really depends on the shop. Very small teams with only a few analysts - much of the work is outsourced to London. There’s some good PE shops in the UAE eg Abraaj, not sure on exit opps but I don’t think you’d get the same deal exposure as you would in London. Finally, can be very difficult to progress up the hierarchy if you’re not from the Middle East

In my opinion the UAE (having lived there) is a very B-team place, but that creates a lot of opportunities for A-team players to make serious money (add back the taxes on top of that), but you have to be well connected and know the ropes of such a place. No point of going there early in your career unless you just want to spend a year there to be in the sun (you'll hate the sun and heat after a year trust me) and party on the beach every Thursday/Friday evening.
