UBS vs. Lazard

Another first time poster but long time viewer of WSO. Thanks to everyone for sharing your insights and information and helping me through the Summer Analyst IBD process.

What are your thoughts on UBS (IBD) vs. Lazard (Generalist) SA in NY? I know it depends on which groups at UBS but I heard the top ones are pretty solid. Thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

Lazard--not even close. Whilst the analysts are now pooled, if you play your cards right, you'll get staffed predominantly within one group. Try for FIG, TMT, Industrials, or Natural Resources (it may still be called 'Power and Energy'). Real estate is a great group as well, but it's fairly specialized, so maybe not the best place to start.

In any case, UBS is Lazard's bitch.

i've heard lazard is known for long hours, etc. but it also has a great name. It might be a boutique but it's a very well recognized boutique (i would think a better name leads to better exit ops).

don't know too much about UBS but in another thread, first year analysts in IB were making 70-80 K i think. also not a bad name. definately BB status.

that's all I can help you with.
