Vacation days for PE and HF interviews

When 1st year IB analysts interview with PE and HF firms are they generally expected to use vacation days or do interviews happen on a weekend superday? Would it be weird to ask for a day off 6/7 months in? Would that look suspicious? Is it generally an open secret that IB analysts take days off around January/February to recruit for PE/HF and superiors are fine with it?
