What are people's thoughts on university investment clubs? WIC, PMF, etc
I noticed in Canadian universities, these investment clubs seem like a big deal.
Here are some links to some:

All these investment club analysts got good positions in the investment banking industry, so it seems these investment clubs help students get jobs during university. But after university it doesn't matter, right?
I also noticed no one in Canada got any venture capital jobs out of undergraduate. What does it take to get a job at Sequoia?
Not true about VC funds... know a few who went straight from undergrad out of waterloo for tech VCs in SV, granted they usually have some type of tech background as well.
And yes the people who get into these clubs are generally cream of the crop but I wouldn't say it was these clubs that got them their jobs. For most part they were just naturally interested as alot of these clubs hire mostly seniors anyways so they would likely have secured a return offer already
For those from waterloo that went into venture capital, what was their major study at Waterloo and what were their achievements? Did they start a successful startup? Y combinator?
These are definitely the highlights. I would say that while what SA-123456 is somewhat true, being in these clubs certainly gives you a leg up as they're fairly respected and frankly these clubs have a lot more touch points with the banks which improves your odds of getting in. They'll often schedule office tours and participate in things like accelerated recruitment. Also, I believe at PMF for example some of the professors involved actually reach out and push for their students which isn't everything, but it is something.
I think most Canadian finance/investing clubs are not instrumental for kids getting into IB. It does demonstrate interest in finance but for Queen's and Ivey, it's the really the school's career office that gets them interviews and etc. The exception is UBC PMF - UBC is a non-target so PMF is really the only opportunity for UBC kids to break in high finance. PMF manages a $7m portfolio and they offer so much exclusive alumni networking opportunities - the students are mentored by industry veterans, are guaranteed summer interships, and travel to NYC for alumni meetup among other things. No other club in Canada rivals PMF.
Hey, who are you? How keen are you? You seem to know a lot for a high school kid.
