what to do past recruiting season?

So I am a senior at a target school, economics major finance minor, 3.5gpa. Late arriving on the scene of ibanking, lack of finance internship experience, the recruiting season went past with little success. Does anyone have any advice on what to do now? Try to land something with a mediocre boutique bank or try for some mid/back office job and work from there? New York is the place where I want to be. What are the possibilities of climbing up from a back office job?

I welcome any suggestions or better yet advice from similar situations and experiences.

I had a friend who was in that situation, and he killed himself - that was probably the best course of action.

But seriously, why are you just now asking this? The recruiting season did not JUST end a few days ago. The recruiting season ended MONTHS ago, at least for the big banks.

Just find some type of internship for the summer that you could spin in your favor, have a good time, and work on your smile for full-time recruiting.

Don't do back office work at a BB - it builds no transferrable skills to the front office position that you want and it will be extremely difficult if not impossible to move to the front office. I recommend e-mailing out a bunch of MM boutiques, and not just in NYC. You may have to be flexible with location. I believe there is a listing of boutiques as the first thread now. Definitely look at Chicago, LA, and SF - all great cities with good finance activity.

You can always transfer to a BB if you're good after a year or two at a MM boutique (although you may have to start on 1st year BB analyst salary if you transfer). You can always go to business school after working at a MM boutique as well. Top business schools don't want a class composed entirely of bulge bracket experience people.
