W.P. Carey

I will be attending W.P. Carey(ASU) in the fall of 08. If I was to keep my GPA where it is now, 3.8, do I have a chance of breaking into I-Banking. I have great EC, and am going to keep working on my contacts. Any advice or thoughts are welcome.

M.AlexanderAppreciate the sarcasm. Some of us have to pay for a college education ourselves.

wtf does this even mean?

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

rooster3tif you werent smart enough to get a scholarship then you arent smart enough to do ibanking
Never said I didn't have a scholarship. ASU gives me a scholarship and I pay the rest. This comment is made with no prior knowledge. Thanks for bringing some ignorance into a forum where I'm actually trying to get some valuable information.

I never even post but this thread pissed me off. WTF is wrong with you idiots berating a kid for asking if he can get into banking from ASU. Saying that hes somewhat retarded for not getting any grants or scholarships is retarded. You guys are the Dumbass keyboard warriors that have never been laid.

To ASU kid, I'm no banker but if you look around there is plenty of evidence that people break in from all sorts of background and NON-Target schools. Just saw this not too long ago. Good motivation for you.

http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/my-not-so-secrets-to-success[/quo…] Yo douche, I wasn't "berating" the kid b/c he's from a nontarget. I'm from an extreme non target myself. I was laughing because a random ass thread, which was never even responded to and was made by an OP with 6 banana points, was bumped after 4.5 years by someone with 2 banana points. Did he honestly think someone who posted 4.5 years ago with only 6 banana points would still be on WSO? The only thing dumber than thinking that is writing a post to explain it...why the fuck did I just waste my time...

He probably just google searched ASU I-Banking and the thread popped up and he asked. Don't think he looked to check how many 'banana points' the dude had, you clown. But obviously, since your the douche, that was the first thing you checked.

keep on swaggin with all your bananas swagon.

Let's hope that Investment Banking recruiters don't use Google, because if you type in "ASU is" Google autosuggest will offer the following choices:

ASU is a joke ASU is a party university ASU is hot hot hot

No joke, try it yourself.

Not defending Arizona State here, but as a heads up, the 'hot hot hot' is appalachian state. Probably on youtube, pretty enjoyable.

4 years later...haha

Anyway -- this is probably of no use to the OP, but to others wondering the same thing, just do a quick LinkedIn search and you will see that it is possible to break into banking from ASU. In fact, one of the first profiles that comes up is of someone who's currently at Goldman IBD...pretty impressive profile, actually.

That being said, you are certainly going to have to be the exception and not the rule.

This quickly turned into a bitching match.

guy who re-brought up this thread: Read around the forums about how non-targets break into IB. It's the same formula for all NTs, you just have to network your ass off, know the fit and tech interview questions, and be willing to bust your ass.

This is definitely not the career path to look into, whether at a target school or not, if you're not willing to put in a shitload of bitchwork.

To those who gave competent responses, thank you. Seems like networking and setting myself away from the herd is the message here.

As to those who decided to go the impudent route and demean an aspiring student as well as his university, I thank you as well. I thank you for the motivation to shit on any and all fuckheads on wallstreet and walk away with a BB job. I thank you for letting me know that I shouldn't feel sorry for the people I'll be stepping on and stepping over in coming years. If anyone has any more fuel to add to my fire, this is me welcoming you.
