Non-Target MBA Student Seeking Anything In IB
I am freaking out as I am a recent graduate from a non-target business school, with an 18 month accelerated MBA and can NOT find a job in IB.
I decided to go straight through and attain my MBA immediately following my bachelors degree as my institution did give me a hefty scholarship to do so, as well as felt as though I would not go back in the future if given the opportunity.
I have internship experience on wall street, a stellar GPA and gmat scores, and was looking for positive feedback with regard to my resume. I will post the link underneath.

I know I do not have the experience level as many of you with regard to internships, but chose rather to pursuit a full time job while in school to help defer costs, and loans. If you could please guide me by giving me some pointers and feedback on my resume that would be awesome.
I can't believe all the work and effort I put in to not even be able to break into this industry.
Thanks alot.

Rutgers?
No, Seton Hall University
i would chose a different template, without the "strength features". you should check out merger&inquisitions or look around the forum here to get a feel for what's common in the industry. however, the bigger problem is you do not really have the right background for ibanking (non-target, no banking experience, mba too soon). you do have sales experience though, so you might want to check out private wealth management. either way you should begin networking immediately if you haven't done so yet.
what would be a better type of template to use? Do you have any examples? I was thinking about maybe going back to school to perhaps gain a certificate in I Banking from Wharton? It may compliment my degree as well as five me the chance to intern at a few places, your thoughts? thanks for your feedback! I know that my resume really doesn't fit the background, but if I find the company to get my foot in the door with.. it has the potential of very well being an opportunity.

What kind of jobs are you applying for? At the Associate level? Everyone on the forums agrees you need 2-5 years of xp before B-School. Since you skipped out on the XP, you are really being hurt.
no work experience + seton hall mba= nope
You need to pick a different format. Go to Mergers and Inquisitions and take the resume format posted over there. I would get ride of the accelerated designation, just put MBA down. GPA needs to be on there.
So here is my opinion. I would go back to sovereign bank and get a job in their commercial or community bank section. You have contacts and a network there. With an MBA you will make around 70K plus bonus without a doubt. As for IB, I guess it is possible, but you are in a tough position. You have almost no real work experience and an MBA right from undergrad (a big no no, but I understand why you did it) so you are not going to get an Associate position. You could try and go for analyst positions, but seeing that MBA on your resume will scare a lot of places away. Have you applied to any boutique or MM places around? If so have you gotten any feedback?
Bit of a scruffy looking CV... cluttered...
I think your standard and poor experience is pretty solid. Try to highlight that a little more. Im not trying to be an ass but the Abercrombie & Fitch position brings your resume down. I recommend putting that at the bottom if you really feel like its important. Also highlight that you worked part time during school (if thats true). Good luck man.
Excelsior- I am applying for solely analyst and jr. analyst positions. I know it is a step down, but not having the experience to support my MBA degree, I want to start from the bottom up. I was thinking about maybe Stock Ratings at Fitch/Moody’s/S&P, and then moving into an I Banking role after gaining enough experience.
AnthonyD1982- I was thinking about perhaps applying without the MBA, or even stating that I am still working towards it… that seems like a much better scenario versus that of stating that I have it. I am not looking for much more of a jump in pay as I went to SHU with a full ride practically; I am just looking for a foot in the door. Thanks for the resume template; I will definitely try to change it up this evening. I have gotten some feedback, through interviewing with JP Morgan as well as S&P but I have not heard anything as they say the MBA makes me overqualified for the positions I have been looking into.
BudFox24- I know the A&F position brings down my resume, but it was Full time management working experience, and it was a huge portion of my work history. Should I highlight that in my resume? I mean it’s rare that college students are working full time while in a business program. Would it be better to put Sovereign Bancorp and S&P, while putting A&F at the bottom of the work experience portion?
^^ I agree with BudFox, the A&F position is kind of a weak point... and you're highlighting some things that shouldn't be highlighted there. "Conceived and produced seasonal displays...", maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but it sounds like a fancy description of you creating a 'For Sale' sign and just taped it to a window.
Have you tried looking up your school's directory to see if there's any alums at banks? Or maybe looking in other areas outside of finance that at least would allow you to gain some good experience to make the jump later? Maybe a corp fin industyr role...
Did anyone from your class in Seton Hall get an IB job?
Thanks, as we speak I am altering my resume and changing it to a different format to maybe seek a different audience. Perhaps even a corporate finance driven career or something close, this way if a position or the right opportunity were to open up, it would not be a bad transition. And in response to the IB job from my graduating class... not one soul graduated the program with a job who had little or no experience. The majority of my class gained employment in Accounting, IT, or Marketing. I am the only one who is pressing with finance related careers.
I know someone at Columbia B-School and 3-4 years experience in DCM and target UG who can't find anything on Wall Street.
That's why you don't do capital markets.
Nah, its just the job market. The Columbia MBA would have compensated for his DCM experience in normal times.
why do people go to non-target MBA schools?!!!
If their company requires it to move up within the firm or if it is free I can understand it, but your right. Quitting work to go to an un-ranked MBA really is a bad move. If anything just do a PT MBA or something.
What's wrong with ECM/DCM experience may I ask?
