Free 4-Hour Work Week Download

A friend of mine just sent me this link and since this has been such a popular topic of discussion here, I thought I'd give you guys the heads up. This is a link to a free unabridged (read:8 hours 23 minutes) audio book of Timothy Ferriss's 4-Hour Work Week.

NB: The download is only free for another 11 days for some reason, so if you want it, go grab it now.

The 4HWW is great. Once you're done with the listen, try living the 4HWW for yourself on Optask (http://optask.com). Outsource small chores like vacation planning, finding a used card in your area, aggregating data, etc. It's like your own OfficeTiger :)

If I had to sum up the premise in one sentence it would be:

How to harness technology to create automatic cash flow sufficient to support the permanent leisure lifestyle of your choice.

The biggest argument the book presents vis-a-vis investment banking is whether or not it is worth trading 80-110 hour weeks with little or no vacation time for, let's say, $120,000 a year versus working a couple hours a week to make $60,000 and having the free time to do the things that really turn you on in life.

That's it in a nutshell.

To someone just getting out of college, buried in student loans, and laser-focused on banking as a means to make a ton of dough, the book probably isn't appealing.

For those who have been in banking a while, though, and realize what a grind it is and that they're essentially selling the best years of their life for X dollars, the book is very intriguing. I guess it just depends where you are in your career.

Though I don't think you'll get much out of it until you've actually been working full-time for a few years.

Honestly no one in undergraduate or MBA right now will want to do anything like this - the financial pressure and peer pressure is too great.

It's the type of book you'll only enjoy after working full-time, especially if you've done banking or anything else in finance.

His basic point is that most people THINK you can either 1) work a lot and make a lot of money, or 2) work very little but be poor - but there's actually a middle ground, where you can set up passive income so that you can enjoy life while not killing yourself with work 24/7.

I doubt that anyone who's currently in school will find this appealing, but if you've been out there working full-time it's definitely worth the read, even if you only follow part of what he says.
