I'm done. Thanks for all the help.

This is my final post on this site.

I've thought a lot about my career prospects and the fact is I'm not 18 going into a target university with a good chance at IB. I'll still try really hard over the coming year to get an IB internship but I'm aware of how competitive it will be this year with fewer opportunities.

At first, I had planned to do something in corporate finance or Big 4 transactions if I didn't get into IB and then try for a top MBA programme in the US. I'm realising how unlikely it is for me to get into an M7 MBA and even if I do get in, IB still isn't guaranteed and there's also the visa issue of being in the US.

My chances at getting into IB are higher now than they will be at any other time because once you're out of university it will become extremely unlikely to get in once you've missed the internship to full time offer route.

I've decided that if I don't get into IB after this recruiting cycle, it probably isn't meant for me and I'll just live off my inheritance. I just wouldn't have the right attitude to do something else and would constantly be a negative drain in another job because I would always resent not getting into IB.

I'm fortunate to have relatively rich parents so I'll just retire and chill if I don't get into IB rather than doing something else. If I don't get in now then I'm not going to waste further effort recruiting for it in the future. I'll try for IB this year and hopefully it all works out, but if it doesn't it is what it is.

It's not nice having regret and anger due to not making it but at least one benefit for me is that my anger has helped me become more aggressive in the gym and during boxing where I'm literally winning more fights because I'm hitting harder and boxing more violently lol.

There's nothing more that I need from this place since I've received good advice and most of my posts were venting because I was very frustrated.

Thanks to those of you who replied with useful advice about recruiting. I really appreciate it.

That's all from me.

Good luck to everyone trying for IB, whether you're in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, or where ever.

And congratulations to those who are already in IB or PE. You guys have won.

Funniest

A classic high-stakes thriller coming to your screen this autumn:

Will our bold hero finally break in? Or will he be forced to live a life of indolent luxury off of his sizeable inheritance instead?

It’s the action-packed finale of the series critics are calling “painfully banal” and audiences can wait to see, a true must-miss event.

when i first was planning these listening parties i really thought the people on this forum would take advantage and go nuts during this whole thing. looks like you kids are nothing more than a bunch of soys with the rod of prestige up your asses

Is anything anybody posts on WSO real anymore? Like actually, what is the purpose and function of this website in 2024?

there's still some interesting people who post every so often

Working gives meaning to the man.
I am in the same situation as you but in Europe:
I Amin a foreign country where I will never master the language 100%.
I did not the internship route because I had no relevant work experience in Europe.
I am the person to go for my friends working in different banks when it comes to technical stuff (both in interviews and day-to-day).
I could have stayed in my home country and leave the life of 0, 1% of the people with a purchasing power without the need of credit that a lot of people will find it hard to understand, but doing that was accepting mediocrity.

Whatever you do, focus on something for 10 years and then if you want to take your foot off the petal and cruise, that’s fine.  Your inheritance fallback is going to cause you to be a “wandering generality” and you’re going to want some accomplishments to brag about.  Forget the prestige game, just focus for 10 years on something and then reassess.
