Personal Development Sites
Hi Fellow Monkeys,
I am trying to build up a list of resources for everyone on Wall Street Oasis to share. As I look at the forum, there are a lot of resources on getting a job in Finance. I believe that everyone is attracted to Finance, other than having a genuine interest in the market, is to obtain happiness. To most of us, we have somewhat of a notion that money can solve majority of our problems.
To me, to be happy, requires a holistic approach at looking at every part of life and slowly improving all areas: wealth, career (Wall Street Oasis is in this area), health, spiritual (hobby) and relationship (dating, family). It took me a year to look into all types of books and websites and I have complied this list so far.
I would love to hear it from my fellow Monkeys, regarding resources (books or websites) that target these areas of life: wealth, career, health, spiritual, relationship. I will be publishing the new list once I sort and collect the resources that you guys have suggested. Thanks in advance.
Warmest regards, sxh6321

F*cking classic...
On a serious note, Kahn Academy videos were soley responsible for getting me thru college calculus.
^^lol was not expecting that. First post - dl;dr.
There's a site called Wall Street Utopia?!?
A few you may want to add:
SeekingAlpha.com (Investing) Dealbreaker.com (Banking) Macabacus.com (Free Financial Modeling Lessons) ManagementConsulted.com
By the way have you used that Connect Cubed site? I think someone from their site posted on here a few weeks ago, but then the post was deleted within the same day...seemed kind of sketch.
got it. will do. thanks to fellow Mad Men. :-)
Arts/Ceramics: 2 girls 1 cup (they teach you how to make cups out of brown clay)
This is enlightening.
please add Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl to the spirituality readings
Thanks. Will do.
The Sartorialist is a spiritiual read? Interesting. I do like my threads, but...
FANTASTIC IDEA! I'll post some stuff but in the mean time can we have a category for volunteer-ism/philanthropy/do-gooder stuff. Let's not be single dimensional here ;)
And also, "spiritual" has a whole lot of random things in it...mbaonline?! sartorialist?
How about something along the lines of intellectualism?
I can't really pin down on something so I just put spiritual. It can mean lifestyle, interesting reads online, fashion, philosophy, psychology, and so forth. Great idea. I will further break it down in my new list. Thanks for your input.
Personal development? But Arrested Development is so much more interesting.
Decent idea, sent you a PM OP.
I didn't see it in my inbox. :P
I just checked out marcandangel.com and the bookboon link... Hundreds of free business books in PDF form.
I was trying to figure out how they were "free" and found almost all are made by the same publisher and they all have several 1 page advertisements in them. I'm fine with that.. pretty big book list.
I am glad that you find this useful. :-)
.
Solid list, I'll be bookmarking this thread and coming back to it. I'd add How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie and Outliers by Gladwell to the career section.
Thanks. Will do. :)
7 habits by steve cowley
Will look into this. Thanks.
Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. Goes well with how to win friends and influence people. Maybe a "networking" category?
Almost forget about that book (never eat alone). Thanks for reminding me. Appreciate it.
4 hour body by tim ferriss the prince by niccolo machiavelli
The Prince is a great book. One of my mentors suggested this book: "The Origins of Political Order: From Prehuman Times to the French Revolution" by Francis Fukuyama. Have you read this before?
"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Great quote. Thanks for sharing. :-)
2 great websites that I really enjoy:
www.zenhabits.com (life, productivity, ending the rat race, happiness, etc.) www.mnmlist.com (same as above)
I will probably get criticized for this one but the 4 hour work week blog by Tim Ferris hits a lot of the categories you describe:
www.fourhourworkweek.com /blog/
thanks. http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/ looks pretty interesting.
Willpower- Roy F. Baumeister
Thanks for your input. Will look into this. :-)
Sun Tzu For Success: How to use The Art of War to Master Challenges and Accomplish... by Gerald Michaelson Wherever You Go There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zihn Buddha's Brain by Rick Hanson Unleash The Warrior Within by Richard J. Machowicz
Thanks for your input. Appreciate it. Hope you find the list of resources helpful.
Networking Like a Pro: Turning Contacts into Connections by Ivan Misner. Anybody read this? I've heard good things about it.
Under education: for anything and everything MBA related poetsandquants.com. Absolute gem of a website for anybody interested in biz schools. And while you're at it, maybe add ANT's MSF blog under the education category too.
Sure, I can do that. Thanks for your input, appreciate it. :-)
Great Post! one more News feed: http://globalbasic.econoday.com/
Great Post! one more News feed: http://globalbasic.econoday.com/
Thanks. Will do.
Relationships: becomeaplayer.com/ (lots of free stuff)
Education: gmatclub.com seeing as there are lots of threads asking about gmat and admission stuff. The BEST part of gmatclub is the forums on the specific schools and the application tracker portions. You can really get a feel of who is applying and where your stats stand.
Have you heard of David DeAngelo at doubleyourdating.com/DavidDeAngelo? I followed his program for awhile. He focuses on personal development rather than just teaching guys pick up lines. I highly recommend him.
Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it. :-)

Thanks for sharing this poem. This poem was mentioned frequently by dating coaches such as Dr. Paul Dobransky, who was featured in Men Health under "The Coolest Jobs in America". Thought you might be interested: http://www.menspsychology.com/the-coolest-job-in-america
It's straight raining silver bananas up in here.
Quantnet.com is another good resource I forgot to mention. Goldman's suggested reading list is on there and it's a very comprehensive list.

Thanks for this extensive reading list. Gotta read up after the CFA exam.
OP: Didn't end up sending you a PM haha, had a question that was answered already :)
Oh god, Ask Men's dating advice? Please no. Five Love Languages is great, though.
I'd recommend any sort of behavioral economics/psychology books (Spent comes to mind) that talk about consumer behavior, so you can be more conscious of the constant messaging around you to spend spend spend.
And, though perhaps it doesn't fit into the prescribed categories, I think reading Vonnegut is essential for personal development...learning how to laugh at the bullshit in/of life is essential. And since someone mentioned poetry, I highly recommend any T.S. Eliot (especially the Wasteland and Rhapsody on a Windy Night).
Edit to add http://epicureandealmaker.blogspot.com/ (assumed it was on the list already).
thanks for your advice. i appreciate it.
