Citi Investment Banking Superday
Hey, I have a Citi IBD Final Round super day coming up in a few weeks. Does anyone have any advice for me? What questions can I expect? How was the first investment banking Super Day that was held in December?
Thanks.
Should be same as other BB superdays. Just know technicals, basic finance stuff. Not too hard.
Just to clarify, this is for full-time jobs. This is the alternate Super Day being held in a few weeks.
My friend had an interview last December and he said they talked about Pittsburgh Steelers for half an hour.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i bet your friend didn't get the job
for my first ever interview i talked about van halen the entire 30 mins, thought i'd gotten on very well with the interviewer. lo and behold, i got dinged.
I had my on campus last Friday. Also talked to some alum at the group before hand. *) Be cool: don't ramble, be terse & to the point ^^^ don't talk about VH & Steelers for 15 min. *) They are going to try to get you on bs in your resume, so if you can't back something up on the fly take it off. *) They will ask technicals if you claim some sort of finance background, so know your three parts of the balance sheet blah blah. *) Say how much you want a global experience, they're amped on that for some reason.
PM me if you want any other dets
What type of accounting questions can I expect?
how a transaction affects the 3 major financial statements.
How much money did we lose this quarter? (Answer is the equivalent of the GDP of Namibia)
CLASSIC!
I've got nothing against Citi, but this was too funny to pass up.
I attended the IBD Superday in October. Three interviews, one interviewer responsible for a different topic:
First--> Standard technical questions mixed in with thoughts about macro events (where do you see the economy heading, etc..)
Second--> Behavioral; had a set of questions that he had to ask (how do you judge your success thus far in life, etc). As well as walk through resume.
Third--> Seemed to focus on "why citi" and other general banking/business questions (in your opinion rank the importance of innovative products, etc to customers). I'll echo the above statement regarding the "global" aspect of Citi here like the above poster said; interviewer seemed to focus on that.
All in all, not bad and not too different from first round (though my first round was a lot more technical fire/answer format than my superday).
Good luck
Citi Investment Banking "final round" superday in december? (Originally Posted: 12/02/2013)
I got invited to have a "final round" interview for the investment banking summer analyst program at Citi Institutional Clients Group in the middle of december. Isnt this too early to be a final round interview at super day?
When was the first-round?
Just an informal interview on the phone, nothing serious.
Seems early, which means it's likely to be an accelerated interview. Odds are in your favor.
What school do you go to @greensboro? Target, semi-target, non-target? When was the first round? on-campus or on your own networking efforts?
I am a junior at a small liberal arts college, not a target school as far as I know. I just feel like its hard to believe that it is a final round. I don't really know what to expect. How many superdays does a firm like Citi hold for investment banking summer analysts?
anyone heard back?
From friday? a guy ik there told me im waitlisted and offers went out.
yea i got the offer friday afternoon, not sure if im gunna take it tho. Citi culture sucks, i have a buddy that summered there and he hated it
what is Citi IBD superday like? (Originally Posted: 11/08/2009)
Has ayone ever gone through the process? Is it mostly fit behaviorial for the superday?
I think the above post is right on. Definitely know how to answer the "why Citi" question; emphasize the bank's international presence. For my Citi Superday I read the Mergeres & Inquisitions 200 Q&A for IBD interviews. I can honestly say it is the best guide out there that I found, so I highly recommend you get it.
In the end, though, you need to have great communication skills with your interviewers and feel confident when answering the questions. Regardless of how many guides you read, you only improve your interviewing skills through practice. So definitely schedule a mock interview or practice with a buddy before you travel.
Good luck.
...
fair mix of both technical and behavioral
Internship. So you would say 50/50?
Just got my offer today for a SA position. I can confirm everything that has been said above. The M&I interview guide was money.

Is anyone else going to the Citi superday in NYC this Thursday? Any tips on what they will ask over the 3 hour period? From the phone interviews so far they've been about 80% market based, a little about financial products e.g. option pricing, and two variations of dice probability games. They love the dice ones....
ibd or cmo?
can't be ibd questions
Sales & Trading...
It's the same as any other interview you have as a junior. Know all current events, know financial markets and economic news, know recent deal and m&a, have 2 long and 2 short ideas, be able to walk through your story in 30 sec., be able to talk about anything you put in your résumé, have a strong pitch why S&T, why sales vs. trading without seeming to stubborn on one, which products you prefer and why, how does a y of your experience make you a good candidate for S&T.
Not really sure what the purpose of this question is. Whether its Citi, GS, JP, etc. it's all the same.

Citi's 1st Round Analyst super day (for non-target schools) is at the end of the week for banking. Just heard back from them that I got it today and got a flight to New York an hour after they called me.
Any advice on how to prepare for the interview in such a short amount of time. I had a SA internship at in NYC this summer and got an offer, finance major at a non-target.
I have a Citi superday as well coming up in a few weeks. Any tips other than the ones above. So the M&I guide is worth purchasing? Im about to pull the trigger.
Thanks so much guys for all the help here, seriously w/o WSO I wouldn't have 4 superdays already. I didn't even land first rounds last year.
this year you should focus on Why Citi and show your knowledge of the Citi business model
Know the following: dcf, comps, any technicals on ur resume, basics of ur deals, economics, some thoughts on current market conditions, simple way to explain what bankers do
if it is a first round, it should basically be 30 mins. why u, why banking, why Citi, and as the above poster said the citi business model.
to know the answer to is: why the hell do you want to be in banking in this kind of market?
Expect that one. See you there. Good luck.
I PMed you... and I have a general offer for any students currently interviewing for BB positions - if you PM me the name of your interviewers, I can send you some information that can help you get the position; strategy has worked well for me in the past.
My Citi interview was one of the more technical ones, that was on par with Lazard and GS (for non targets that is)
The Citi girl went into bonds quite a bit (for an IBD spot), but did the normal ring around with DCF, comparables and general valuation questions.
I would just prepare as much as you can technically, and hopefully your fine on the fit part (comes naturally I think...)
Congrats on having an interview in this environment though...
The structure is 4 half hour interviews. Any more insight?
Yep! know your DCF, what an IB is, and what you will be doing in the job..
Just curious, girlbanker, have they called you back yet?
Hey man,
I am a rising penultimate year student about to apply for SA positions next summer as well (2019). Could you direct me to the WSO forums which helped you in the process of getting four superdays?

Has anyone been through or has information on Citigroup IBD Superday? If so, can I PM you with a couple of questions?
Thanks
To Aces High, how did you get offered a SA position if applications haven't even opened yet? Insider contact?
SA at Citi, got FT offer, PM away
I've got a friend at a school that regional offices recruit from; last I heard, interviews start early next week sometime.
Citi la just ended today
Citi tech is friday
Looks like that was in February for this past summer....

who's been through it or something similar? types of questions, technicals?
have they done first rounds already for NY?
when do you return from abroad?
I went through it for FT IBD this year. Mix of technical, behavioral, and general "fit" questions.
How many different threads did you just start? One for each interview? Have you thought of searching?
why are you so lazy? you couldnt do any research on your own at all?
I have a superday as well coming up, does anyone know the groups/products out of Chicago? Does Citi execute out of Chicago?

I have a superday with Citi coming up for a first year analyst position in NY.
For those that have recently went through the superday, what is the structure like, what kind of questions can I expect (fit, tech, market), and how should I prepare for it?
Gracias.
bump
Look over an interview guide, read the journal and dealbook to get a pulse for the transactions that have been completed in the space and ideally by Citi. Know and be able to succinctly articulate why you want to work in banking and why you want to work at Citi...
thanks for the advice. Anyone else?
what superday are you at? 21st?
anyone hear back from the superday on friday?
bump. not yet. Anyone hear back from the superday on friday?
@ whartonite12 and NYCiti - Citi corporate banking superday last friday?
investment banking
Anyone? A friend of mine was at the superday.

Has anyone been notified for the IBD super day last Friday yet? Heard through the rumor mill that some have already received offers.
Can you elaborate? I was there too. Still nothing. Though they said it would take a week...but yeah, they probably already chose their top candidates. What a bummer...
i was there on the 24th of october for a trading superday, anyone heard from them yet?
just got rejection phone call. fuck you nicole!
haha good to hear nicole still works there
that has to be a shitty job, calling everyone telling them they are rejected
Might not make a lot of sense to flame people in HR given the current job market. Really isn't a surprise you were rejected. You will have a hard time finding employment anywhere better then red lobster with that sort of attitude.
i have an offer, thanks. and it's an anonymous forum, moron. it's a great idea.
does anyone here understand the concept of a joke? christ i could not imagine sitting with a douche like slicksac in the office, do people like him really get hired? lol
I could not imagine sitting with a douche like LucaBrasi_got_WACCed who overreacts to a simple piece of insight.
How is "fuck Nicole!!!" a joke? Your humor is fucking off.
are any of you guys going to BofA's ibd superday on friday? this might be everyone's last chance to get into a top-tier firm, although i haven't figured out why they're still hiring.
you guys shouldve applied to ops when you had the chance...
umm... except not. there are a hundred things i'd do outside finance than take a back office position in operations
pays well and easy as fuck , WSO has given people a way too negative view of it.
They extended an offer to 3 people of the ~40 kids who interviewed. Apparently, decisions were made on Friday and those who did get an offer were notified yesterday.
3/40? no way that number is accurate
