Goldman S&T Summer Internship Superday Interview
Hey everyone! I am a third year in college. I have a final round with GS Securities HK office coming up. I am wondering what kind of questions I should expect. for my first round, I had two thirty minutes phone interviews. One of them was all fit. The other one was mostly fit questions and one question about what I would invest in 2011. If you have experience with goldman s&t, please help me out. any input would be greatly appreciated!
I hate to hijack your thread, but I was wondering if you could share some more of the questions you got on your phone interview? Thanks.
I was mainly fit. They asked about how I like my school. Tell me about yourself? Tell me when your worked well under pressure? what would you invest in 2011?
these threads keep coming up on what to expect in interviews, and you cannot generalize because it depends so much on the interview and how you answer/your CV.
Just prepare for as much as you can, fit, technicals, markets, brainteasers and you will be fine.
just had my goldman interview and it wasn't bad. just be familiar with the markets and your personal goals/ why you want to work there. you'll be fine!
are you sure you have superday right after the 2 phone interviews? I'm pretty sure it's second round... Superday is next Sat
ah: you are right. I thought it was superday cuz it said on the reimbursement form. have they gotten back to you yet?
yes JUST got notified - going to superday. I've literally been on 5 flights between here and NYC in the past week...
had second rounds today. heard back just now.
ok dudes, I ll see u guys in NYC
haha, we gotta have some kind of way of identifying each other. AND drinks afterwards. Thoughts?
ah - I'm down. what is your interview time slot? i wonder if everyones is the same?
Haha. I'm 12 - 1:30. Wow there's quite a few of us on here ehh? I saw deeewang and accountpayable and passionfruit post that they're going as well - no replies on the drinks part though.
It's really good to have that kind of community. I've done a couple externships here and there and all of us keep in touch. We're great friends now and great resources for each other.
wow, they must be bringing in a lot of people then, any idea how big their class sizes generally are? My slot is from 6:30-8:00pm, so doesn't look like we can connect for drinks, unless you guys plan on staying till late (but PM me if so!). Hopefully we'll all see each other in hong kong in the summer though! Good luck, and lets keep in touch after the interview process as well!
drinks sound great!!! but we all hv different time slots :( i hear that gs hires quite a big summer intern class but only extends FT offers to a few.
GS does tend to overhire for interns. Personally I think that makes sense, it creates a bit more competition and gives a broader pool to hire from. If i ran a trading desk I would be very careful about hiring someone I havent worked with for atleast a couple of weeks.
hey just wondering what everyone thought about the interviews yesterday? also can anyone verify that singapore securities SA was interviewing at the same time yesterday as well? that might be a good sign if the large number of people they had over for the superday yesterday werent all fighting for the same spots in HK!
I am not sure but I do hope so. Anyway did anybody hear from them already? I heard one offer was given out yesterday
lol azninvazn @ gs
i got an offer today.
I think everyone else should expect to hear back within a week, if you're one of Goldman's top choices. Otherwise they'll wait for answers from the first pool of people they picked and based on acceptances/declines they'll extend offers to people who were "waitlisted". Given that the deadline to reply is 2 weeks and official HR contact/offer won't be for a few days, I'd estimate Feb 11ish to be the latest anyone should be hearing back from them.
And also, yes superday was for ALL of Asia excluding Japan, not just HK. That includes Beijing for IBD. I have no idea if there's a S&T division in mainland (and i don't see how that'd work out either anyway....)
Hey appreciate that information and congrats! Did you tell gs that you have other offers pending so they need to get back to you earlier or if you have not heard back from them that means you are not one of their top choices? I know you have mentioned this in your reply but just to make sure I didn't misinterpret. Thanks!
I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard back yet, most people who are probably gonna get the offer should not have - it's only been uhh 24 hours? I never said anything about pending offers, and in fact Goldman is the only firm that I applied to for HK. I think they'll be handing out offers throughout this week, and I have no idea if that's any indication of their preference - I wouldn't think there's any particular order within this week, but I was saying that beyond this period (i.e. between end of this week and 2 weeks after that), it might be the "waitlist" period.
for people who got offers already, would it be because you were a good fit for a very specific desk (i.e. at the very least be for sure either sales or trading)? I know it doesn't help much, but at this point I'm just very anxious about the entire process
same here, I am very anxious right now. Did they reply your thank you letter? I mean they did but I still have not heard back from them...
did reply thank you letter mean a good thing? anyway did you guys check your app status online? They changed mine from additional interviews to app under review and I have no idea what that means
I have no idea...ugh...anyone else got an offer?
cuz usually they made decisions very quick...@joowon1111: I assume they replied you as well?
I havent heard back. the HR lady said it wil be a week or two tho
well they told us it would be a week or two after the second round and obviously the decisions were sent out that night...plus someone already got the offer already...is it the right logic?
After playing the waiting game for so long and second guessing myself constantly, if they extend me an offer I think I'm just going to accept it on the spot.
@ excellentme: yes they did..but it sounds more like sorry i cannot offer you a job but anyway good luck for everything....anyway I heard that gs usually takes longer than other banks to extend an offer so instead of second guessing let's just wait until the end of this week..good luck to everybody!
also we should keep each other updated regarding offers so that I know when it's a good time to move on!
Guys, it's only been a couple day so I really wouldn't be so stressed like this. Maybe this will give you some comfort - I clicked with my interviewer for 2nd round and he pushed hard for my app, and on top of that I got an alum for one of my superday interviews, so that I think caused the early reply that they gave me.
Since it hasn't even been a week yet, I wouldn't get worried until it's past this Saturday. By that point you might be on their waitlist, but I can't be sure either!
I would keep interviewing regardless, and I'm still doing that even with the offer..
@ah: thanks for the info! Again really appreciate it and good luck for your other interviews!
no probs guys. btw i heard they've only given out 12 offers total this year, so that's why it might be a long wait b/c you'll need someone to decline the offer for it to be taken to the next person.
Just heard this number earlier from one of my interviewers...
@ ah: just to clarify, this mean they have already informed 12 person already so now we are on the waitlist in case anybody reject the offer is it?
just checked my app status, says declined :|, well I just can't believe they declined it without sending an email...
@ excellentme: I guess that's what gs always do. But anyway don't be discouraged, I am sure there are more opportunities for you in NY or next year or from other BBs. Good luck!
Anybody got offers already?
did you get the offer already?
no. i have not hear from them yet. Dunno if they are taking their time to hand out offers or I am on the wait list
Well best of luck then at least ur app is still under review rite? They replied my thank you net with a pretty positive tone and.. Well guess I'm just not good enough... Congrats to all those got an offer!
mine says application declined as well... but I don't understand, I hit it off really well with all the interviewers. Also, are you sure it's accurate? It says "application under review" for IBD Beijing, but I never even got first rounds for that division
mine says app declined as well. i dont understand either, i actually thought i did very well in my three interviews. well just got to keep interviewing although things are starting to look bleak :( best of luck to everyone!
my too, declined. and I thought I did really well. I guess everyone did well for that matter. good luck everyone on the rest of the recruiting season.

Does anyone know when it is? Waiting to hear back after an interview a few days ago. Wasn't really sure at what point its over. Do you even hear back about a rejection?
I was told to come on the 24th, but I'm sure there are multiple superdays.
I have a superday after OCR first rounds on the 17th for S&T.

Two question: 1) I received an email that said "congratulations on being accepted to the superday for Securities blah blah blah. This is your second round interview...". Wait, so is this superday only a second round, implying there is one more, or is it also final round?
2) What percentage of people get offers given that they're at the superday?
Most probably, it will be your second and final round (unless some MDs during the superday later decide to conduct more phone screenings. haven't heard of many cases like this, though.) Congrats!
sorry to thread hijack but i was wondering what type of questions you got for your 1st round interview with them? We can talk through PM too if thats easier
1.) It's the final round, unless you get called back for further interviews (happens sometimes if they can't decide on you or if they think you'd suit another division).
2.) What difference does it make to you and your preparation if someone says 10% or 90%?
Brown_Bateman...good point, it wont matter on my preparation.
..So whats the percentage?
Is this for NY position? I just came back from GS S&T SA superday last saturday, for Asia office.
Yeh, NY position
for asia SA, spring 08, there were three rounds.
first round phone screen, second round in nyc with 2 EDs, final round a week later in nyc with 2 MDs. that was the process i had. tiring.
i guess only two rounds for US?
Asia SA this year is 4 rounds: 2 phone interviews with guys in HK, 1 superday in NYC last weekend (3 one-on-one interviews), and 1 video conference interview day with MD's. 100% fit. 100% English.
