Goldman S&T Summer Internship Superday Interview

Hey everyone! I am a third year in college. I have a final round with GS Securities HK office coming up. I am wondering what kind of questions I should expect. for my first round, I had two thirty minutes phone interviews. One of them was all fit. The other one was mostly fit questions and one question about what I would invest in 2011. If you have experience with goldman s&t, please help me out. any input would be greatly appreciated!

I was mainly fit. They asked about how I like my school. Tell me about yourself? Tell me when your worked well under pressure? what would you invest in 2011?

Winners develop the habits of doing things that losers don't like to do.

are you sure you have superday right after the 2 phone interviews? I'm pretty sure it's second round... Superday is next Sat

I don't accept sacrifices and I don't make them. ... If ever the pleasure of one has to be bought by the pain of the other, there better be no trade at all. A trade by which one gains and the other loses is a fraud.

deeewang:
ah: you are right. I thought it was superday cuz it said on the reimbursement form. have they gotten back to you yet?

yes JUST got notified - going to superday. I've literally been on 5 flights between here and NYC in the past week...

haha, we gotta have some kind of way of identifying each other. AND drinks afterwards. Thoughts?

Haha. I'm 12 - 1:30. Wow there's quite a few of us on here ehh? I saw deeewang and accountpayable and passionfruit post that they're going as well - no replies on the drinks part though.

It's really good to have that kind of community. I've done a couple externships here and there and all of us keep in touch. We're great friends now and great resources for each other.

wow, they must be bringing in a lot of people then, any idea how big their class sizes generally are? My slot is from 6:30-8:00pm, so doesn't look like we can connect for drinks, unless you guys plan on staying till late (but PM me if so!). Hopefully we'll all see each other in hong kong in the summer though! Good luck, and lets keep in touch after the interview process as well!

hey just wondering what everyone thought about the interviews yesterday? also can anyone verify that singapore securities SA was interviewing at the same time yesterday as well? that might be a good sign if the large number of people they had over for the superday yesterday werent all fighting for the same spots in HK!

I am not sure but I do hope so. Anyway did anybody hear from them already? I heard one offer was given out yesterday

i got an offer today.

I think everyone else should expect to hear back within a week, if you're one of Goldman's top choices. Otherwise they'll wait for answers from the first pool of people they picked and based on acceptances/declines they'll extend offers to people who were "waitlisted". Given that the deadline to reply is 2 weeks and official HR contact/offer won't be for a few days, I'd estimate Feb 11ish to be the latest anyone should be hearing back from them.

And also, yes superday was for ALL of Asia excluding Japan, not just HK. That includes Beijing for IBD. I have no idea if there's a S&T division in mainland (and i don't see how that'd work out either anyway....)

Hey appreciate that information and congrats! Did you tell gs that you have other offers pending so they need to get back to you earlier or if you have not heard back from them that means you are not one of their top choices? I know you have mentioned this in your reply but just to make sure I didn't misinterpret. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard back yet, most people who are probably gonna get the offer should not have - it's only been uhh 24 hours? I never said anything about pending offers, and in fact Goldman is the only firm that I applied to for HK. I think they'll be handing out offers throughout this week, and I have no idea if that's any indication of their preference - I wouldn't think there's any particular order within this week, but I was saying that beyond this period (i.e. between end of this week and 2 weeks after that), it might be the "waitlist" period.

well they told us it would be a week or two after the second round and obviously the decisions were sent out that night...plus someone already got the offer already...is it the right logic?

@ excellentme: yes they did..but it sounds more like sorry i cannot offer you a job but anyway good luck for everything....anyway I heard that gs usually takes longer than other banks to extend an offer so instead of second guessing let's just wait until the end of this week..good luck to everybody!

Guys, it's only been a couple day so I really wouldn't be so stressed like this. Maybe this will give you some comfort - I clicked with my interviewer for 2nd round and he pushed hard for my app, and on top of that I got an alum for one of my superday interviews, so that I think caused the early reply that they gave me.

Since it hasn't even been a week yet, I wouldn't get worried until it's past this Saturday. By that point you might be on their waitlist, but I can't be sure either!

I would keep interviewing regardless, and I'm still doing that even with the offer..

no probs guys. btw i heard they've only given out 12 offers total this year, so that's why it might be a long wait b/c you'll need someone to decline the offer for it to be taken to the next person.

Just heard this number earlier from one of my interviewers...

12? Thats little more than one intern per desk. I thought GS usually takes more than they can give FT offers to so they can see who is the best fit for the job

Well best of luck then at least ur app is still under review rite? They replied my thank you net with a pretty positive tone and.. Well guess I'm just not good enough... Congrats to all those got an offer!

accountspayable:
mine says application declined as well... but I don't understand, I hit it off really well with all the interviewers. Also, are you sure it's accurate? It says "application under review" for IBD Beijing, but I never even got first rounds for that division

mine says app declined as well. i dont understand either, i actually thought i did very well in my three interviews. well just got to keep interviewing although things are starting to look bleak :( best of luck to everyone!

my too, declined. and I thought I did really well. I guess everyone did well for that matter. good luck everyone on the rest of the recruiting season.
