Lazard Final Round Interviews
Hi everyone. I have a final round of SA interviews coming up for Lazard's NY office. Was wondering if anyone could give me any insight into the level of tech questions to expect. My first round only had a few basic technicals, but I'm prepared for paper LBO's, advanced valuations, etc. Any insight on what tech questions or fit questions to expect would be great. Also, if anyone has an idea of how the format of their super days are and how long it takes to hear back, that'd be great. Thanks.
Non-traditional background got to Lazard Final Round interview (Originally Posted: 09/29/2011)
I am an Earth and Environmental Engineering major with absolutely no previous experience with finance. I got selected for an on campus interview for the Lazard Freres Entry-level Financial Analyst Position. I felt like I performed pretty poorly in the first round interview, as it became obvious that my knowledge of finance is very shallow. To my COMPLETE and utter shock, I was selected for the final round interview that is being held this Saturday. (Since I am used to fairly low-key interview processes, maybe I'm just not used to feeling like you blew it?!)
A couple of questions: why do you think they would be interested in me? Is there some sort of catch? Will I be expected to calculate/know technical finance stuff by Saturday? I thought the first round interview thoroughly exposed that I don't know these things...but I can't imagine that I would have 3 hours of nothing but "fit" type questions. And if so, what are some things that I should focus on? I've already downloaded the Vault Guide, of course. But with so little time left I need to prioritize.
After reading some of the posts re: Lazard here, I've gotten the impression that they are really, really intense. Are these exaggerations or actually true to life? My impression is "no" since someone with my background got to the final round.
I hate you...
They wouldn't have wasted their time on you if they didn't think you had something useful to them... clearly you're bright and you work hard if you're at a target, were able to make the GPA cut, and are in a quantitative field (engineering) so those are all +'s.
You don't know anything in finance and they know that so no surprises, I'd work more on the fit or behavioral elements that go into an interview... forget about 'impressing' anyone FT b/c a few months into the job they're already way ahead of an undergraduate in finance-related knowledge. That being said, I'd advise you to work hard on crafting your best 'why banking story' and showing interest in IBD related shit. You want to be able to counter the potentially perceived belief that you thought to yourself 'holyshit these guys pay a lot, fuck engineering', even though that's fine and its not like people don't want to get paid well... just try and steer away from that and counter those attitudes. I'm not saying that's what they will be thinking, but be prepared as that's probably the biggest thing that might sink you assuming you interview fairly well etc.
Goodluck ... I am certainly jealous, let us know how it goes.
Maybe they're planning on putting you in a new renewable energy finance team and need at least one lackey who actually knows something about the science behind it. Back in 2008 everyone was talking about building up capital markets teams for an industry that would become huge. Maybe the interest is back again.
You've got a 3.7 at Columbia, which means you're at least doing something right.
And you're a girl hahaha
Read the Vault guide, but past that point it should be smooth sailing.
Thanks for the input guys! I will definitely read the Vault guide back-to-back as well as refresh myself on the renewable energies and mining commodities. I also e-mailed the guy who did my on-campus interview for feeback and he kindly provided his cell number.
I went to the career center and they said they might put you in a group to see how you function to solve a problem. I guess this intimidates me the most since unless they propose an energy or resource-related case to us, I won't be able to contribute much to the discussion.
Lazard MM - Minneapolis Superday (Originally Posted: 10/11/2017)
I interviewed with Lazard MM in Minneapolis last Friday for their superday. I thought the interview went really well; I had met a few of the people that interviewed me previously through networking. I nailed every technical and I wrote about a unique company in the writing supplement. I spoke with the HR associate after the interview and she told me that there were three open positions left and two pending offers already on the table from previous superdays. I still haven't heard back yet, does anyone have any opinions on my odds with Lazard?
Commented this in another similar thread - if you haven't heard by now, probably the best case is waitlist. It's an anxious wait, because you haven't officially been dinged, but almost ALWAYS they will get back to you within 24-48 hours if you're their primary candidate
Has anyone heard back from Lazard Superday in Houston? (Originally Posted: 10/26/2017)

Lazard RE Banking Final Rounds (Originally Posted: 02/23/2009)
Hey,
I have final round interviews with Lazard's RE banking team later in the week. I looked through the other threads and none of them really had any good insight about the interviews. Does anyone have any information or experience with the group? What kind of deals have they worked on lately?
I appreciate any help!
you mean restructuring?
Know your shit. It will be very technical, especially if its for restructuring.
Its for their Real Estate banking group, not restructuring. My bad.
Just Google and check out dealbook...im not that familiar with Lazard RE IB group
Just be familiar with whats going on with cap rates and market rents, national real estate investor, shopping centers today, etc. all offer free publications with up to date industry information. RE is nothing more than understanding cash flows Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.
Hi, Could you post interview questions that were group (real estate)-specific? I am now preparing to interviews with real-estate group at one of BB banks and would very much appreciate it!
Lazard final rounds conversion rate (Originally Posted: 10/22/2009)
Self-titled. Going on final rounds with LAZ next week. Anybody familiar with the process and the typical conversion rate according to your experience?
doesn't matter, just go and kill it. if you're worrying about your competition you already have the wrong frame of mind going into your interview.
Out of curiosity, I know the latter is next weekend (halloween).
This is just one data point, but Lazard gave out three offers at one superday a couple weeks ago, and I think there were only five or so candidates there that day.
Lazard, not MM. Thanks for the info guys. Will prepare as much as possible and try my best.
if you get such a basic ques, how o you answer that?

Hi I had a phone interview with Lazard's Healthcare group in SF last week and they told me that they would get back to me by the end of this week. I am wondering if anyone has heard back from them as well as if anyone has any other information from the other groups in San Fran. Thanks
Curious as well... has anyone heard back?
are you guys all interviewing for the M&A healthcare group?
Yes we are. Anybody?
I am interviewing for the Brazilian Lazard Group. Losing hopes here - it has been two weeks since the last contact. Although I called them last week and they said I had passed for the next round, I haven't received any call nor email with a confirmation/scheduling a new interview since then. I think I am in a "hold" position - If they interview everybody else and don't find someone fit, they will call me.
:/
is this for FT or SA?
This is for SA. Have not heard anything back as of right now.
Was the interview hard?
Anyone hear back?
anyone hear back?
I have not heard back one way or another. Maybe no one on here did well haha.
Any update on this? I had an on-campus interview at Berkeley and have not heard back yet.
Hey Bud, I go to berkeley as well (Haas). I think they filled it with a DSP kid BUT, I saw one of the DSP analyst (tech) was telling a DSP kid all the answers. PM me.
