I will be doing my SA at a global investment bank in London from early June to late August. Is there anyone else interning in London this summer?

My bank provides me with housing for the first week (the training week) but I do need to find a room for the next 9 weeks of my internship. If anyone else is interning in London and is looking for a place to stay, please contact me, perhaps we could share an apartment to keep the costs down.

Plus, where do investment bankers hang out in the city of London? (the E1 zone)

Regards

I've also got an internship in the City. I've alredy booked a room in uni halls for the summer, but my advice to you would be to pay a premium and get a place close to your bank, or at the very least something close to a direct-line tube. There is nothing worse than being in an overcrowded bus stuck in a traffic jam when you should be at your desk - especially if you are markets.

My internship is from late June till early September.

The poster above got the past-time pretty much covered.

Are you originally from London?

i think we are interning at the same bank, however y internship isnt for the summer.
i would live at a uni dorm but i cant since, as i mentioned before, my internship isnt for the summer. try to live in a place close to the tube and make sure that you wont need to change lines. when i went there i found it really annoying to change lines. there were stations where you had to walk A LOT to change lines.

I am from the states and I have visited London only once for one day...for my interview with the bank. I didn't get to see much at all.

lorican, can you suggest any good housing options around the E1 zone?

e1 = expensive

university dorms would be great around farringdon road. contact NYU because I know they have dorms there too.

i know hsbc is not in e1, and they give you housing for training... or is this some other bank?

Think HSBC, BarCap, Citi.

I want to cap my rent at 600 lbs per month...or 700 lbs.

but you might find something for PS600-700/month south of the river. Although, you will not be able to cap your total expenditure at 600-700. You'll also have to factor in going out & leisure, food, travel, etc.

Your best bet would be to contact your employer and ask them if they have any deals with local housing companies, universities. They get lots of international students and probably have some contacts with housing associations. My bank is block-booking a hall for their interns (paid for by the interns) for the whole 10 weeks, so your bank might be doing something along those lines as well.

For flatshares, I'd advise you to look at http://www.gumtree.com/ . Although, searching for a flat will be very inconvenient for you, so your best bet by far is to go with uni halls http://housing.london.ac.uk/cms/short-term-housing...
Hope this helps.

for 600GBP you can't expect much, maybe a flat share in a decent area about a 15-20 minute tube ride.

i know that student housing close to the square mile will run you a minimum of 150GBP/week, but it's more likely to be around 200GBP/week if you want a decent place

look into HIVE / UNITE / LSE Dorms

Ask HR for some references. They usually have connections which can get you better deals.
