Public Finance (muni underwriting) to Corp Finance Analyst lateral move

Hi,

How hard would be a lateral move from public finance analyst (muni underwriting) at a BB to a corp fin banking analyst at either BB or even MM ? Anyone with experience or know people who have done it, your input will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Would doing 2 years as a Public Finance Analyst (Muni) at a BB make it extremely impossible to maybe land a position in a boutique/MM PE buy-out shop? I do understand that the modeling and the experience that I would get would be much different.

How about doing Public Finance Analyst at a BB then MBA with summer internships at PE buy-out funds and then landing as an Associate at a buy-out shop possible?

Or does this route just mean Infrastructure or PPP funds?

Anyone have experience at PPP fund?

Thanks!

I am sure it's possible, but I'de say the skillset in terms of modelling/valuation would be very different. From the people I know who are doing Muni type stuff, the exit opps are infrastructure related funds, project finance type stuff, credit related work or just grinding it out to MD in the group (which is a fairly easy way to make a couple million a year from what I hear)
