What to do when SA recruiting is done?
I was extremely fortunate to land a BB SA offer for summer 2018. However, now that recruiting is done, I'm feeling a bit lost. I feel like I've dedicated the entirety of my college career to landing an investment banking offer, and now that I've accepted the offer, I don't know what to do with myself.
How should I spend the rest of the fall and spring semesters? What activities can I do to keep myself busy and productive?
Dude, shut up. You can't seriously be this vapid.
Tinder
memorize fabozzi's fixed income and learn every excel shortcut ofc
Know any good sites to learn the excel shortcuts?
bro.....
Productive wise? It may help you to dabble with the WSP/BIWS modelling guides to get a superficial understanding of how things work. There will be differences between this and real work (formatting and others) but you should be able to intuitively understand things when you hit the desk. I think it could also be helpful to continue networking with folks and maintaining the relationships you've built over the recruiting season. I would also encourage you to study hard and do well the rest of the way this semester and next so as to keep you GPA steady.
The tongue in cheek answer? Go out. Have fun. Get inebriated. Travel over winter break. Have transcend experiences, sexual or otherwise. Most of which should not be on here.
All the best :). My congrats to you. It's definitely a tremendous achievement, but of course only the beginning in all respects.
Get 4.0 fall and spring semester, spend a lot of time lifting, network with group you want to be placed in. Honestly it doesn't stop now. Just because you have a SA offer doesn't mean your life is set. Keep going. Don't stop. IB is not the end goal.
Unless you're at your top choice, keep networking with the place/places you'd rather be at. That's what I'm doing anyway.
What Do I Do Now - Is SA Recruitment Over? - What are my chances? (Originally Posted: 12/25/2017)
Hi there! I'm sure this has been posted dozens of times, but maybe I'm not so adept with the search function / couldn't find anything recent/relevant with my situation.
So some stats: 4.XX GPA / 4.XX (as in my gpa is the highest it can be either on a 4.00 or 4.33 scale (doing this for anonymity)) State School - Lower /semi-target - Junior (May 2019) Decent leadership ECs Prior internship at a small trading shop
I missed the boat for SA recruitment partly because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life (whether it be law, tech, trading, ib, am, etc) and did poorly with networking (only 1 superday and didn't even receive first round with a bank that we're a target for) but now I'm dead set on IB. Some courses of action I can do/thought of:
a) then maybe try to do FT recruitment for a BB? b) then maybe lateral to a BB after 1 year??
If anyone's been in this unique situation of mine / has expertise please lend me your experience and insights. I'm open to any suggestions and comments! Thank you in advance!
Just delay graduation by a semester. Try to get some IB experience this summer. Friends are doing that
How are they handling the "hey didn't you say you were graduating in XXX 20XX?" question? Is there a way to spin it off into a positive? I've heard from an alumni that he looks unfavorably upon delaying graduation for an internship and would rather see someone try out for FT recruitment
Your situation isn't anything unique so not sure why you're saying it is.
I personally wouldn't transfer just to start over as a sophomore/junior so I could recruit again, the tuition + opportunity cost just doesn't seem to make sense.
Start cold emailing any regional boutiques and make it work. FT recruiting is pretty much non-existent so your best bet would be lateraling after 1 year. Granted it isn't impossible and I've seen people lateral for FT but usually they were in upper MM / tier 3 banks that made the jump.
I wasn't trying to spin it off as unique - I'm sorry if I came off somewhat entitled or egotistical. I meant transfer in as a junior*
Also, I'll try my best and I've started emailing! Thank you for the advice!
Banks already done with SA recruiting? (Originally Posted: 09/23/2016)
Coming from a non-target (maybe a semi-semi-semi target), and have my first weekend trip coming up at the end of September.
I know recruiting has been moved up quite drastically, but a contact mentioned that he thinks a decent amount of the banks that were in my top-10 have already picked their entire SA class. Wanted to get some second opinions or see if he was misinformed (my hope).
Specifically, I heard that Lazard, Guggenheim, Evercore, and Barclays have already decided their SA 2017 classes. Anyone else know if this is true? Not the end of the world of course but meeting with a few people from those banks and it's a bit disheartening.
How is that even possible. Lazard, Evercore, Guggenheim and Barclays all have yet to do OCR at my school, which is a target. I attended all of their info sessions, where they encouraged juniors to apply for the regular OCR process. They probably filled some of their 2017 SA class with diversity/women, but that doesn't mean the entire class is filled.
Glad to hear that. I know the guy I talked to interviewed with Lazard, Guggenheim (where he accepted an offer), and Barclays, but I'm assuming it must have been for some seriously accelerated process.
Don't think the processes are 100% done for all these places, but they might be at whatever school he went to. I know at my school 7 signed with Barclays and they're done recruiting, but this is for OCR / diversity recruitment. For non-target stuff there should be availability for at least a few more months
heard that a lot of the banks have pushed recruiting cycles fwd and have been giving offers in off campus recruiting processes (to get around OCR timelines). believe several of the EBs are done with recruiting, for the most part.
Most banks had their 1st superdays. Spots are definitely not closed any where though. Can confirm BB and EB firms with superdays over the next few weeks. Would imagine 90% of spots or more filled by end of October
If banks make offers through On Campus Recr, the students have a long window to accept. Banks will pressure for an answer, but have to honor the school's deadline. Offering students via off campus recruiting, they can pressure for a decision quickly. banks are definitely trying to circumvent the school's process. Seems like many banks are making offers during the summer before students' junior year. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Will the banks eventually recruit 8th graders like college athletics?
Application deadline was last week for my boutique and we're extending all offers before November
I'm 126 combat, can you make an exception for me?
I go to a target and Barclays is the only BB that is done with their OCR. Talked to my friend there and she said that for next summer's recruiting cycle (for current sophomores) they are coming to do info sessions next spring semester. Crazy how much it's been accelerated.
Wow that's pretty crazy. At least for my target, Barclay's has yet to do OCR, but their first rounds are scheduled for late october with 42 slots for first rounds, so still think Barclay's has a lot of open positions.
I don't go to a target but BAML and Citi are done at my school. The superdays are this week.
What about Europe ? (I mean London...)
I think it depends largely on your school, or at least geographic region.
I'm at a semi-target in the midwest, and Barclays has already filled up their interview slots. They are hoping to wrap up recruiting by early October.
As for the other BBs, most aren't as accelerated. BAML/Citi/JPM etc are all having on-campus interviews the week of October, so I'm guessing another 2-3 after that for the final offers.
Anyways I highly recommend you get your app in ASAP - no sense in waiting.
I've heard that MS filled their class during their accelerated process. I go to a target and MS hasn't been on campus at all - can anyone corroborate?
As for others, GS, Citi, Qatalyst, Lazard, Houlihan Lokey, and BAML all came to campus in the last two weeks. They aren't done.
Yep; pretty sure MS is doing their last round of Superdays around now. A lot of my most qualified friends didn't even get first rounds - a shame really.
MS has 3 spots left on my campus, filled 2 or 3 in the accelerated processes. They might be interviewing now for those 3 spots though
Anyone have insights on Evercore's recruiting timeline? Haven't heard of anyone who has an offer or who has had a super day there yet.
A month later – but I spoke to their Wharton recruiting head and she didn't mention they were done, and I'm supposedly speaking with a member of their non-core recruiting team pretty soon here. That leads me to believe they are still doing super days.
Has anyone had a superday at Centerview, or does anyone know the timeline there?
My school is considered target school by almost all BBs and can confirm that the recruiting is pretty much over. I can't speak for others schools' OCRs since its an entirely different game, but I won't be surprised to see most of SA classes being filled up by the end of the month.
CS intern recruiting over?? (Originally Posted: 01/23/2008)
Hey guys, I just received a message from a senior person at CS that recruitment for summer interns was over two months back. I don't think I can believe this as recruitment is still going on. Does anyone have any input on this?
The interview process is not over for targets but no more referrals are being taken.
i submitted my resume a long time ago through another associate or analyst. I just wanted the senior person to put in a good word. It's a bit strange but I will contact him again.
I don't think you are right. I am a referral from a non-target and have made it to the super day this coming friday. I suppose it could be over after that though.
Your referral to the interview process probably happened at least a month ago if you are in final rounds right now. I'm talking about resumes getting passed on to HR right now. I know they are over because I tried to get resumes from kids from my alma mater to several banks we have relationships with and CS wouldn't take anymore.
When did they inforrm you about the interview? Also did you have a phone interview? I think I got dinged but strangely enough, they told me they would contact me early Feb.
Do only non-targets have to go to a superday? All of the interviews I have or am having are just 2 back to back rounds and thats it. (as in Day 1 and Day 2). BTW, i am at a target school
Non-targets typically have just one day of interviews.
Targets and non-targets go through the same interview process (which may vary by firm).
I was informed last week about my CS Superday. I did not have a 1st round, but I did informationals with 7 CS bankers (1 analyst, 4 associates, 1 VP, and 1 ED). I assume that helped me bypass the phone interviews.
jesus christ you did 7 informationals with different people from one firm? They should have just given you the job since they probably gathered enough information about you after all that.

I know someone who's interviewing for the JPM Sophomore Honors program, and he's attending the dinner tonight, interview tomorrow.
I think BB 1st round interviews are over this week at my school.
most banks have been done at my school
This does not bear well for me. Anyone out there with some information on non-target school recruiting?
i'm in the same boat as you. I come from a semi target and most resume deadlines for OCR ended last week, with interviews going on this week and next week. I've heard back from alumni at a few BBs and if they end up giving out interviews it will happen this month.
Varies by school...I went through same stress when i was in your shoes indian banker, just chill and worry about your situation. you cant keep hearing about kids getting offers and assume that your shot is up. just keep working hard and something will develop. good luck
I know that BofA/ML are both still in the process for non-targets. Also I'm not sure that Jefferies or many of the MM have even begun.
i go to a non-target school (johns hopkins). i have a 3.91 gpa and worked at merrill pwm last summer. i have just started getting interviews-- i had 2 with hopkins alumni at morgan stanley on sunday, a first round with macquarie capital on tuesday, one for nike's finance internship tuesday, and have one with goldman research tomorrow. i just found out today also that i made it to the 2nd round at macquarie after i do their psychometric assessment. i also have a fixed income s&t first round interview with morgan stanley sometime between now and tuesday..
so i'm thinking a lot of the banks are just starting recruiting SAs from non-targets around now....
I go to a semi-target school; most investment bank SA recruiters have come and gone. I think the last few will hold on campus interviews later this week.
I go to a non-target. My contacts have told me recruiting will begin once on campus recruiting is over (ie now). I have a couple interviews being lined up for the next 1-2 weeks.
I'm a London applicant, and over here most of the major banks/financials (ex GS) have pretty much already finished recruiting. With only the people on the reserve lists getting ACs when an offer is turned down.
Just my 2c.
interviews begin next week at my Chicago target
Done with SA Recruiting already? (Originally Posted: 01/24/2012)
Talked to a PE guy who told a MD connection at a top BB (GS/MS/JP) to send over my resume. MD told me they just had their superdays and are done with the process, for now.
Is SA recruiting already over? I thought they finish around mid-Feb? Granted I'm at a non-target, don't have any OCR but still!?
Will there be more superdays? Am I screwed for this bank and should I move on?
I'd be surprised if that was true, first rounds are just getting started at my school.
resume drops begin right around now at my target
FYI, this is for IBD
non-core is underway and almost over at most banks
bump
GS/MS are not done with SA recruiting. Don't know about JPM.
They may be done with non-core recruiting already or the MD might just not want to give a referral to someone he's never met...
"They may be done with non-core recruiting already or the MD might just not want to give a referral to someone he's never met..."
I'm assuming ^this is the reason. I applied by the noncore deadline (acc to HR) and there's no way it's over already...
Bumped by accident.
Which banks haven't done with SA recruiting in London? (Originally Posted: 01/24/2012)
Just want to know, which banks are still interviewing candidates for SA 2012 in London? I know GS is interviewing, when will they finish? what about others? (mainly for IBD).
Thanks!
UBS is full I believe.
SA internship recruiting season over? (Originally Posted: 02/25/2014)
So far I have had two BB first round interviews and two international bank interviews. 2 were this week and I have no had any super days yet. What can I do to secure an internship for this summer? I go to school in NYC and have a 3.4 gpa at a non target. I have zero experience butI have applicable skills such as being a former division 1 athlete. Anything else to do besides cold emailing and networking?
Citi ECM is still looking for people.
At my school (MBA) banking recruiting has been done for a while now.
it's hard to believe that you go to school in NYC and your school is a complete non target fordham, baruch, rutgers (practically new york), and even the CUNYs to a small extent have recruiting where do you go?
all I will say is I go to one of the schools you listed. Ill agree with you halfway and say I go to a semi target
you're really not being very helpful with the whole anonymity thing you shouldn't be such a clandestine child- no one actually gives a shit. it's just helpful to know from the perspective of knowing your options
anyway, assuming you go to one of the former three, use linkedin to cold email SVP-MD level contacts who work in banks or maybe non IBD functions in BB. other than that, you could always apply for big4 valuation work
well its official. I am rejected to all my places so I must not be doing something right. My last one I thought went very well. idc either but since you care I go to Baruch. I am not even going for IBD, I wouldn't mind an ops internship
lots of places still have BO functions open check all the BBs- im 100% sure you'll find something
if you want to chat about it at all, you can PM me
thanks, i sent you a PM

This post pissed me off.
Meet him, have a genuine conversation, and try to learn something from his experiences. Don't stop talking to him because he can't immediately go out of his way to do something for you.
Networking is a marathon not a sprint in that you shouldn't start it right before/during recruiting season, you should start long before recruiting season and work up to a referral. He may not be able to help you with job placement at this very moment, but I am sure that if you make a good impression now, he will be more than willing to help out when recruiting season begins.
I'm so sorry for making you upset. I asked him if he would be willing to have a chat with me but got a reply just saying "i'm sorry, but recruiting is finished." so I was not sure if he is up or not. It will be my pleasure to have a conversation with him. I'll just ask it one more time. Again, I am sorry.
Is 2015 IBD SA recruiting over? (Originally Posted: 11/18/2014)
I saw posts about first round interviews and invites to super day. Also, I know 4 people who accepted an internship placement with a MM. Is there still hope?

Commented then removed because I don't want to accidentally mislead. Others will have advice.
Some banks are starting early, but not all
You have plenty of time. Most Superdays take place in January and February, so make sure your applications are submitted by the end of the month.
Crazy how early the process begins

I heard that recruitment for SA London at UBS is over / almost over. Does anyone has any word on this? I had a 1st round interview a week ago and thought it went really good so was hoping go get to the 2nd round...
No, it's not over yet.
How do you know? Or you're just being sarcastic?
Anyone got a 1st-round interview and haven't been able to have it scheduled?
