America: The Land of Opportunity – Stay Mad

I’m beyond grateful to be American. No country offers more opportunity, freedom, and upward mobility. Yet, it’s always the Europeans and Canadians talking trash—while lining up for U.S. visas, U.S. jobs, and U.S. money. If your countries are so great, why do your best and brightest all want to come here? JD Vance just called out Europe’s decline at the Munich Security Conference, and he’s right. Meanwhile, at the USA vs. Canada hockey game, Canadian fans booed our anthem—only for us to beat them 3-1. Perfect metaphor for how things always play out. At the end of the day, America rewards ambition like nowhere else. If you don’t like it, stay where you are. Sorry had to rant and get it out. I’m not overly political, but I really do like (at least on the surface) what Trump is doing. I just know for a fact that 80+% of euros and Canadians would leave their countries to come live and work in the states. Same is true in medicine and I’d imagine other fields.

I spent years living in France, and you can absolutely become a Frenchman. There's a reason they call it France métropolitaine. France spans spans 5 continents. Even outside of France d'outre-mer, France is a top destination for university and immigration across the francophonie. There is no way that you can look at someone and know if they are French (or Russian for that matter... there's a decent number of Black Russians... Vietnamese Czech... Japanese Peruvians...)

The US doesn't have a monopoly on this.

Are you sure? Australia seems to the most sought after destination for most of my European friends. I've never been to Australia so can't confirm if it's worth the hype. Bondi beach seems amazing though. And the women are unreal. The men are pretty jacked too, if that's your thing.

If you don’t like it, stay where you are.

It's a bit hypocritical to say this while also praising JD Vance lecturing the Europeans... in Europe, no? Staying in Europe is what most Europeans are doing. Based on my time interrailing Europe, many people seemed pretty damn happy, healthy, and educated. 3 things Americans are NOT

I'm assuming by "Euro" you're referring to the UK NHS? Because this is definitely is NOT true of many European countries. As for the NHS, it's been gutted by successive conservative governments. You also need to factor that in the UK you need to commit to medicine by 16 for A-levels. It's crazy. It should come as no surprise there's attrition + immigration to countries with better comp, lifestyle, and a less strained healthcare system. Want to guess where they're immigrating?

I know plenty of Australians working in finance in America. Never have I once seen an American go to Australia to work. You don’t understand how deep and liquid our capital markets are. I know an Australian who moved from Australia (covering healthcare) who said he had to cover all of healthcare from insurance to smid cap biotech. Think about how insane that is??? In the US we have dedicated biotech teams for specific diseases. It’s not like that anywhere in the world…

And most Europeans go to Australia bc of the lax work and immigration laws.

On the physician note/front, this is because we have actual standards in medical treatment / training in the US. We don’t just let foreigners come in and practice. You have to go through a US residency / training program. But yes most doctors would PREFER to work in the US if possible. We pay 2-3x more than other countries (sometimes more). Additionally we have the latest and greatest in medical / biotech innovation. But that’s fine you can keep coping.

Didn't read but this is totally true. All immigrants seeking a better life should go to those other countries instead of America it's way better I promise. Only come here if you want to win and build something.

“You cannot actually tell if the African or Asian living in “Europe” is African or Asian :-)”.
Europe for everyone, except for Europeans themselves. Must be nice having a homeland amongst one’s own to return to, unaccosted by opportunistic freaks like you.

Exhibit A for why immigration is a literal disease to nations. Here we have yet another passive aggressive foreigner redefining the native culture and historical demographics, conveniently to accommodate himself amongst those who actually established its history, social attitudes and institutions. Laying the groundwork for ethnic cleansing via paper genocide.

I can —in fact— distinguish real Europeans from those such as yourself, and so can everyone else, including the foreigners you brought up. This isn’t even to speak of modern genetic testing. What’s funny is you know this quite well, and implicitly admit it within your delusional rant, acknowledging the so-called “Black Russians” and “Vietnamese Czech”. If they were truly “indistinguishable”, why do these identity groups even exist? Did you miss the part where their race is literally prefixed to the ethnicity for which the state itself is named after?

The ironic subtext of your post’s rhetoric is not only your utter failure to ‘integrate’ —despite schizophrenic claims to having biologically transmutated into a ‘Frenchman’—, but further-still your latent instinct to deconstruct what actually makes “France”, French.

You can come from another country and become a Frenchman.  However that list of other countries is highly selective to those nations in which the France has colonial ties.

Most Americans have no idea how hard it is to secure a work visa and then transition from for example H-1B to a green card and then eventually become a citizen.

I think the USA is a great country, but the immigration policy has been a pain in the ass for years.

Glad you're proud to be American, but kind of unhinged post. Not sure where you're getting the "80% of euros and Canadians" wanting to come to the US from (also who says "euros"). Might be true for startups, but definitely isn't true for medicine.

Can't comment on the hockey game, but as a general rule of thumb, tariffing allies doesn't exactly build good will. Go figure.

Not really, granted the US couldn’t care less about having Europe as an ally. You can bet the house it still needs Europe as a long term client for those USD30bn weapon exports fueling that facade of an economy you call letting the poorest without medical aid.

In the past you had Canada/Europe as Allies & clients.

Now you’re on the verge of losing them on both points.

Pretty sure basic economic theory and empirical evidence shows that Canada/EU will come out stronger in the long term…

Some food for thought for all you 2 digit IQ MAGA tardos

If you have been paying attention at all, you would know that Trump and Vance have been acting aggressively towards Canada, which is an ally of ours.  This is the reason Canadians booed the US anthem.  You might want to get ready for US anthem getting booed by US citizens.  Lots of US citizens are angry that the current administration is systematically dismantling it principles and our democracy.

Ah yes, the elected government overthrowing the unelected entrenched bureaucracy is “anti-democratic.” Need I remind you that Nineteen Eighty-Four was a warning and not a manual for how to twist words?

We seriously calling separation of powers (e.g., an independent judiciary)  "unelected entrenched bureaucracy" now?

So yes: the extrajudicial firing of agency heads and illegal attempts to dismantle Congress-funded programs absolutely is "anti-democratic."

An alarming number of these MAGA people seem to have a hard-on for Russia and China, where all organs of government and private sector answer to the head of state.

There have been dictators in history who have done great things for their country, but at least you could be honest about hating democracy.

Did someone mention unelected representatives of government?  Musk has entered the chat.  As I have predicted in the past, the US is on the way back to a time when corruption was widespread and will compete with what we saw many decades ago.

Your entire point is career/money perspectives on why US is the best. However, many people just want to enjoy life after their 9 to 5 (with their paid lunch OFF DESK), and I would say that Europe is far better for this.

Based on how we treat Canadians and Europeans, I think immigration will naturally fall.  At least we are not rounding up Canadians and Europeans and sending them to Gitmo .

I don't know about any of the rest of that, but the fact is, Europe doesn't really have true freedom of speech. There are policies and ideas and people that cannot be criticized without the authorities knocking on your door. I'm with Vance in that if the United States is in alliance with Europe based on shared values, what are these values that we share? What shared values should Americans be willing to spend their lives and treasure on? For goodness sake, Turkey(!) is in NATO--we're borderline open enemies with the gov't of Turkey and yet we're in some bullshit military alliance with Turkey, as if the American public would enter a war to defend Erdogan.

I voted specifically to keep you, your friends here, and my sons out of a war in the mud or sand somewhere that they don't speak the language.  So thankful that you are aware and awake.

Leah R. Matsil

Tell me you have no idea what is going on in Europe without telling me. It's honestly mind-blowing how little critical thinking the American public is proving to have - guess all you do need these days to influence public opinion is a few Twitter bots. Not to mention that implying that there are really no shared values with Europe to side with when the other option is Russia is... something.

Anyway, from a completely unbiased point of view, it's ironic to see an ideology named "America First" squandering decades of global influence and dominance, which was the very thing that made America the dominant nation in the first place. It really is unbelievable to witness.

We do not need your trade. We don't need ANYONE's trade. We are the buyer because you can do it cheaper, not because we can't do it. We are electing to create an interior-circulating economy because we can.

Anyone who can't see war with China on the horizon is an idiot. We need manufacturing capabilities here. Gonna be hard to ask China's factories for some ammo to then use against them.

"No country offers more opportunity, freedom, and upward mobility." Seriously?

More economic opportunity? Sure. But you are seriously deluded if you think regurgitating that line about freedom and upward mobility that you've had shoved down your throat ever since you were 10 is convincing. I'm American, and when people say that, it just shows they're not well-travelled or well-read - just brainwashed. And yes, being blindly patriotic also means you're brainwashed.

And does your dumbass actually think Europeans are coming here because America is so great? Trying to have a pissing contest about your country being "better" is an idiot's game. Everyone likes living in different countries for different reasons - you're not evaluating peers in a f**king comp set. People come here because we are a global powerhouse for innovation and business activity in general too, but mostly, it's for the pay. Same reason Southern Europeans flock to London and Switzerland, people nowadays go work in the Arab Gulf states, and Asians go to Singapore/Hong Kong.

We have our merits. All countries do. And sure, we tend to outperform most countries in a lot of metrics. But if your sense of pride stems from how "great" America is, I seriously recommend you reevaluate your values and priorities. I can't stand both parties, but that "we're the best, everyone else should kiss the ring" mentality that has permeated the Trump administration now is dumb as hell and will bite us in the ass. Not to mention, very backwards.

America still offers unmatched opportunities, which is why top talent from around the world comes here—whether in finance, tech, or medicine. Trump’s administration has focused on boosting American industry through tax cuts, deregulation, and trade policies, which have helped some sectors but also caused tensions globally. His immigration stance aims to protect U.S. jobs but has made it harder for high-skilled workers to enter. At the same time, he’s challenged checks and balances, pushing for more executive power, pressuring agencies, and dismissing those who oppose him. Supporters see this as cutting bureaucracy, but it raises concerns about democratic stability. As for 80% of Europeans and Canadians wanting to move here—that’s a stretch. Some do for career growth, but others prefer their countries’ social benefits. Still, the fact that America remains the top destination for ambition speaks for itself. I’m not a Dem or Repub because they both stink like sh*t lol

Given you're using chatgpt, can you ask it what happens to American/western hegemony if short-term, isolationist policies/movements like MAGA continue?

America is still top dog, but this isn't an immutable law.

Stop thinking every person is using chat. Have you ever thought that there are people possibly more intellectual than you? Also, America is a powerhouse, but in reality, we’re f’d. If he gets rid of checks and balances, then he can pretty much do anything. You've got landowners selling millions of acres and building data centers worth billions. When you have Saudis and companies like SoftBank investing $1 trillion or more into America, they’re doing it for something more than infrastructure or AI. The whole tariffs idea is idiotic. I just think it’s funny when Trump talks about how ‘manufacturing companies were taken from America.’ Businessmen took their plants from America because labor was too expensive to make that particular product, and most consumers couldn’t afford it. Could you seriously imagine a Cadillac on the Autobahn?

I remember living in the US, walking out of the gym, and seeing a bunch of morons flipping a car and rioting, then them military showing up for over a month.

Personally, not somewhere I want to live. I like doing business in the US but don't really want to live there. I don't like many aspects of the culture.

Your # about people wanting to move is grossly incorrect too. It's not hard at all to immigrate to the US if you're Canadian. I could have done it easily as my wife is American lol.

"JD Vance just called out Europe’s decline at the Munich Security Conference, and he’s right."

That's BS. JD and DJT are going full far-right and negotiating on behalf of an authoritarian Russia and other illiberal regimes in the ex-Soviet sphere of influence

You know the biggest winners of all this? China and Russia.

__

Vlad has a way out of his 2-day special military operation. China is preparing to mediate peace talks, is already building stronger trade relations with the UK and Europe, and is filling the vacuum left by USaid. You can debate whether we should have been spending money that way in the 1st place, but that's simpily the end result.

__

The unprecedented political purge has given more legitimacy to one-party rule (e.g., Xi's anti-corruption drive), as has the demise of any pretend separation of powers (remember when we criticized Hong Kong for that?). As for the judges that have put up any resistance, all I here from MAGA supporters is "investigate the crooked judges!"

__

Trump's approval rating among democrats is single digits. Most American's can't even stand the other political party, and would rather drink liberal tears than have a united nation.

__

A divided, increasingly isolationist country barely 250 years in age, banning competition and tariffing allies.

This is probably correct.  US citizens are enthusiastically following a guy who has been a financial failure a good part of his career.  His resume says he took 6 companies into bankruptcy but yet he is somehow going to lead the US into the golden age by implementing tariffs, deporting illegal immigrants, damaging relations with US allies, hiring people mostly unqualified for high level jobs, and dismantling the US government.  I do not know if our democracy can withstand the next four years.

I have an unpopular opinion but I am an ethnic minority and I am East Indian and clearly brown hispanic looking to the American "White".

A. I have been ethnically targeted on hate crimes once or twice, been stared at in Midwest, and have been the victim of many micro-aggressions. Countless times mistook for terrorist, hispanic criminal. "This guy". THIS GUY. THIS GUY. Always referred to as THIS GUY.

B. I've also have been the butt of many jokes while growing up.

C. I have never been in such a pale-skin oriented world my whole life. Any non UK-Isles culture, any non pale-skin looking person is just marginalized here.

D. I've also been cut in line in Texas at a 7/11. I was also verbally assaulted in a brazen manner by some random salty white guy who said he owned my car while walking past me and that I was his valet.

E. I have European friends who I grew up with that moved back to Europe in 2006-2008, and I also have a Vietnamese friend who moved back to Vietnam as he said he couldn't survive USA's hire-and-fire cycle.

F. I've also seen the immense level of hate basically any non-European gets in USA because other folks have told me about their experience.

G. To be an American you still have to be of CroMagnon European descent, helps to be of UK Isles heritage. And this is more true especially if you live in the Bible Belt.

I know as an ethnic minority and from household talks of other ethnic minorities that the USA is not the greatest country in the world. What it really is a fruit tree for rejects of Europe and other global peasantry.

The only smart beneficiaries of USA are those who exploit the capitalist system and economic fruit tree - Japanese, European, Indian, Chinese C-Suite executives who get bonuses from selling stuff to USA while sitting safely in Mayfair, Florence(italy), Paris, Seoul Gangnam, Tokyo, Shenzen.

The USA is an Anglo Scot, Anglo Irish, Anglo German dominant society and this is a very un-eccentric culture to those of us from more eccentric cultures such as Arab, Indian, Turkish, Lebanese.

To us food is Shawarma, Kunefe, Iskander Kebab, Lemajun, Biriyani, Naan/Roti/Chapati, Chicken Tikka Masala curry, Boti Kebab.

BTW this isn't a rant on Europeans. This is a rant on the dominant insular tribes that dominate USA.

I can even like Italy Greek Latin peoples. They eat Polenta, Paellea in Spain, Gyro in greece.

I can't do it in these countries with these Ford, GMC, Dodge, Buick driving Warrens, Ryans, Kyles, Zachs and their opinionated WASP world bubble mentality and their sammich is food and beef pot roast is dinner world.

I am cultured, flavored, eccentric Eastern man and I will be leaving USA eventually like the rest of my flavored friends.

The US and it alliance with NATO is coming to an end.  It is going to be the US versus the world and we might have one ally in Russia

Is this a joke? Canada booing was as a direct result of Trump talking shit for no reason. They have been our greatest ally for the last 100 years and that relationship is quite literally the envy of the world. Compare that to other bordering countries (Russia/Ukraine, China/Tibet, India/Pakistan, Israel/Palestine/Jordan etc.)

The new administration is causing irreparable harm to American standing around the world. This is endangering American preeminence that the last 40 administrations have carefully built

Do you know what’s so funny about OP? I used to think like this too until I ended up getting a green card through my father and worked in the U.S. for two years in a top finance entry role.

I used to believe in the American Dream, especially when I landed my first $100k salary working in NYC. I thought I had made it. Then I looked at my first pay slip. That was the moment I woke up from the dream.

Federal income tax, FICA (Social Security and Medicare), New York State income tax, New York City income tax. On top of that, sales tax on almost everything you buy.

The U.S.A. is such a meritocratic fraud in modern times. Back in the day, you could go from zero to hero when industries were untapped and structures weren’t monopolized. Now you just end up in some weird financial loop where you work like a dog, 10 days of holiday a year like WTF, earn a decent salary but get taxed ridiculously in most states, and are sold the idea that if you work harder, you’ll earn more. Realistically, you’ll always be an employee.

You enjoy glorious America and I’ll enjoy 30 days of holiday, no tax, and a safe living environment in the UAE. Meanwhile your kids are going to have to worry about wearing a bulletproof vest to school, and choosing who to be influenced by Charlie d’amelio or Charlie Kirk, the Woke American left, or the idiocracy of Trump and his neurodivergent cronies. Don’t worry I’ll invite you to the UAE, you should come work here sometime, you’ll love it…

Oh wait, I forgot. You still have to pay U.S. tax on your global income.

Nice one, Uncle Sam! LOL.

We are in the new world of embracing your adversaries and alienating your allies.  Europe, Latin America and North America including half of US pretty much hates us.  Interesting times.
