Other people in that group log off at 5:30pm and "work from home". I have a friend over there who tells me that.

The favoritism has gone overboard while the men are being torn apart.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. CHANGE IS NEEDED.

RBC mining in Toronto had a summer analyst pass out midday after grinding them until 5am every day last year, apparently no one noticed for 20 minutes - mining shops are some of the sweatiest in IB, this needs to change also if this happened in mining then comments on female vs. male are irrelevant given it’s pretty much only guys but would be interesting to hear which coverage groups are seeing the the most favoritism

The executives of the BMO FG need to hold CM accountable. Even after that groupchat stuff apparently they just fired the juniors, and put the rest they didn't on a short leash.

Like these analysts aren't just doing this outta nowhere, culture starts at the top.

There's no logical reason a corporate job should lead to heart disease for healthy people in their 20s, especially considering most were in great shape prior to starting

It’s a cesspool at the top. Most executives are corrupt, unethical and busy virtue signalling. Canadian IB is a basket case of abusing DEI for personal gain. Look what happened in US, the moment a strong leader got elected, every bank started packing up the feminist clown show. Same thing needs to happen in Canada but unfortunately, Canadian Conservative Party is pretty left leaning when it comes to accountability and DEI. The dressing down which Trump / JD gave to Zelenskyy today is what is needed for Canadian IB execs pursuing feminist agendas.

Controversial

Turning a post about an analyst in Canada having a heart attack into something related to Trump politics is disgusting.

Put the blame on the MDs working their analysts to the bone while they give no communication. Or the staffers that over load specific analysts. Or the group heads that allow their MDs to abuse juniors as long as they close deals. Or the C suite that turn a blind eye as long as your group is climbing the league tables.

And if you want to turn this into DEI (which wasn't even mentioned by me or the poster), then why not blame the individual bank CEOs that abuse its system for their own performance metrics instead of generalizing a policy that helps Veterans get back into the work force (yes, the Veteran's programs at the banks are also DEI!).

You managed to turn a post about a serious health matter, caused by a working environment which has existed and received scrutiny since before Trump pursuit into politics, for what reason? To let off steam?

There are plenty of subreddits for you to discuss politics. A thread like this is not the place.

The fact that the scandal earlier happened last year and then this happened under the head's watch just speaks volumes about him. Heard he's nice in person but probably isn't what he seems...

Comment section is a cesspool — analyst was getting terribly grinded, no one really knows details but wasn’t a heart attack. Paramedics were at the office. Something has to change about this job

I wouldn’t say outright dumb, but they're not nearly as smart as they think they are, and it seems that the group in general goes out of its way to make the job harder than it has to be. Bluntly, it tests people's absolute limits in their ability to tolerate abuse and horrendous WLB with B5 pay.

The group is interesting to me - there is a borderline cult-like mentality within it, where those who "buy in" believe and act like they're actually at a top shop where the many negatives are worth it. I'm convinced it's Stockholm syndrome. This is despite the group being literally the least desirable choice among all generalist new hires (and probably across all of Canada).

The only marginal benefit to the group, given exits are also nonexistent, is job security, because a) the group is a revolving door and thus rewards loyalty, b) Canada's crumbling economy relies on antiquated industries like M&M, and c) the group can somewhat rest on its laurels due to its reputation and relationships, both established long ago (and dwindling).

In light of all this, you can see why it's so supremely unpopular and why the few who stick it out develop the aforementioned cult-like mentality defensively and out of insecurity.

IMO, this mentality is responsible for the group’s hostility and consequent notoriety and is why the many people who make up the “out group” - those who left and didn’t drink the Kool-Aid or were affected by the group by proximity - take every opportunity they can to attack and get back at the few who chose to stay (a choice which itself says a lot about the individual).

Look no further than this thread, the notorious one in early 2024, which was mod-wiped due to all of the doxxing of the team, and, I'm sure, many, many others.

@OP - Please change the title. This situation is extremely bad, but it wasn't a heart attack. Title makes it look click bait, which IMO discredits the situation which actually still extremely BAD. There is plenty enough to make a case here without needing "heart attack" in the title.

What actually happened? Can't find anything about it online

In classic WSO fashion, the incels manage to blame everything on women. God I hate y'all

Do you, for sure, know this was the result? Or is it just speculation? Keep your assumptions to your DCFs…

Is there not one topic that you incels don't turn into a tirade against women? JFC, not one of you troglodytes gives a single flying fuck about the person who needed the paramedics. Not a single one.

Enough with your faux morality bs. Just be honest with yourself, you really don't give af about people like this other than to throw on posters for your bullshit "crusade".

I don't agree with blaming everything on dei, but I would blame dei itself for a lot of this. People will naturally resent what seems like discrimination based on immutable traits. Even if it isn't entirely rational. This is human nature. Making it dangerous to vent these feelings in public doesn't make them disappear. These feelings will still bubble up to the surface in unexpected ways

If you're going to pursue dei type policies, you need to factor this resentment into your cost benefit analysis

Do you even know what happened? Or are you being stupid and assuming what happened?

When most of you are beneficiaries of gender quotas in promotions and recruitment, you are bound to see this pushback. Been in the industry for almost a decade and the kind of favoritism I have seen in order to retain some employees is beyond unbelievable. From lower workloads to undeserved gifts & industry event invites, to being safeguarded from layoffs due to your gender, to being promoted even though you are visibly behind the curve while hiding bending the mantra “it is a male dominated industry”. Well battlefields of Ukraine are also male dominated, why don’t you strive for equality there. Freeloaders!

Those in power today will never budge - either they are women who really did struggle to break in and are trying to make it better for the women after them or they are weak men who benefit financially by keeping these policies in place.

IMO only path forward as a man is to just accept it is what it is and once our generation gets in power, do sweeping reform and get rid of all this garbage. A matter of when, not if, it will happen, and it’s already starting.

See: republicans dominating the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of the financial capital of the world.

Do you know what even happened or are you speculating? All the people on this platform know how to do is to blame others than to look at themselves. Disgusting. Someone is seriously hurt and you’re using their situation, which you know nothing about, to push political fodder
