Credit Suisse Alternative Investments - Credit Investment Group
Hey guys,
I have an interview with CS Credit Investment Group next week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is a description of the post:
"The Credit Investments Group (CIG) is an industry leader in managing leveraged loans, high yield bonds, and special situations in credit with over $15bn in AUM across these strategies. Products include co-mingled funds, separate accounts, hedge funds, and CLOs. CIG includes 56 investment professionals and an additional 24 dedicated middle office professionals. A summer analyst will be responsible for positioning the various products and the credit platform to be sold to prospective investors, coordinate credit proposals and pitches, assist in development, research, and creation of new products and structures, perform market research from a macro and micro perspective on the credit markets, assist in publication of topical market research pieces, and coordinate with global sales channels and investors in discussing CIG’s credit capabilities."

Any info. on interviews? working hours?
Thanks.
topcrust, whats your background? is this for ft? this is exactly what im trying to get into.
To give you some insights try and understand Bottom up analysis like it says in the post. Credit analysis does heavy duty due diligence on debt covenants so understand positive and negative affirmations. Also due diligence of the hard assets that are backed by the loans or instruments. Also FSA and coverage ratios. Understand the differences between leveraged loans and HY instruments. Good Luck
Don't know a ton about the people in the group, but it's a good place to start off if you eventually want to jump to a hedge fund that is debt-focused. You'll learn a ton about debt valuation and credit analysis, which is a really valuable skill set. Hours in AI for Credit Suisse are usually better than IBD, but it's hardly a 9-5 job.
This is for summer.
Very exciting opportunity but I can't possibly teach myself all I need to learn about debt in 4 days. That said, does anyone have recommendations for great sites to pick up on debt? I've been googling but any recommended sites would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot guys. Very helpful.
bump.
any recommended websites with a quick overview of different types of debt? I'm getting desperate.
Thanks!
If you are going for a summer, they're not going to be slamming you with the nuances of different types of debt. I think you will be in good shape if you understand the various standard tranches- secured, unsecured, subordinated, high yield, mezzanine, etc etc, understand things like covenants, PIK, etc, and know the fundamentals of bond valuation. As a junior in college, even at a finance school like Wharton you are not going to have much if any educational depth on debt.
do you mind letting me know if this is a front office role or not? i'm very interested in the group. i would greatly appreciate if you could let me know a bit more about the interview process/structure and such. thanks so much
Bump on this. Is this considered front office?
All the guys at CS Alt. Inv. are fucking chachs.
By the looks of it you'll probably fit right in.
hey dj long straddle, do you happen to know anything about the group???
Please help. I have a summer internship interview with Credit Suisse Asset Managment (Alternative Investments) (Originally Posted: 12/14/2013)
Hello. I have a few questions here. Thank you for your time!!
I am an undergraduate student. Starting from a position at the Asset Management industry is an ideal beginning if my long term goal is to become a portfolio manager?
I was told "you won't really learn to value a company if you work at the asset management division. Is this true?
How to prepare myself best for this internship interview?
Any advice is highly appreciated:)
I interned with CSAM Alternatives about two years ago as an undergrad.
In the long term, becoming a PM within that particular division is definitely a possibility.
I dont know who told you that - but it is completely dependent on the division you are in. You probably wont learn to value a company in CSAM Alternatives although there is a possiblity that the Private Funds Group may have some of this.
What division are you applying to with the Alternatives? Private placement and Fund of Funds are the two I remember.

There is an on campus resume drop. It says apply through career office AND the website... but I cant find the listing for Alternative Investment, specifically Quant Equities Group or Credit Investments Group from the job search. All I see is IBD, S&T, IT and Ops. Is anyone running in the same problem?
