Getting a top summer analyst internship
I'm an incoming undergrad at a target (HYPS), and I was wondering how hard it is to get a top BB summer analyst internship after soph/junior year assuming a 3.9+ and modest extracurricular involvement.
Does anyone have any advice as to how to position myself/what I should do in my first two years to maximize chances of getting such an opportunity?

The ones that put the bulge in bulge bracket. You want the beefy ones that really make your resume pound its way to the front of the pile. The competition for these ones is stiff, and you'll probably just want to explode if you don't get these positions, but you'll feel an immense relief if you can get the big and hard ones. You'll likely have to pitch a tent outside the group meetings during the first week of school if you want to get in, as competition is fierce among freshmen. When meeting with members from these big and hard ones, make sure you stand erect and maintain perfect posture and eye contact; otherwise you'll get creamed by the competition. You'll see girls all dressed up with make up and trying to get into the big and hard ones, and of course you'll remark "oh great, here comes the lipstick!" but don't let that deter you - they were probably the ones that played the skin flute in jazz band in high school. If you make it to the interview stage for these big and hard ones, remember that nothing will put your interviewer at greater unease than quick, jerky movements. It'll create a lot of friction between you and him, and will likely feel like grating sandpaper. If you're able to secure a position, you'll sure feel great afterwards, but if you're still hot and bothered from interviewing with the big and hard ones, grab a popsicle to cool down.
You have a good shot OP, but be careful, your choice of major is incredibly important when trying to separate yourself from your peers. Everyone and their mother will do econ or finance, but you need to decide how you're going to make your resume into a special snowflake!
Also, don't fall into the trap where you take all easy classes just to boost your GPA -- this isn't IB recruiters' first ring 'round the rosie. They will see through your BS Harvard basket-weaving classes and throw your resume away.
College is about challenging yourself
why in the fuck are you planning just to have "modest extracurricular involvement." are you trying to do the bare minimum, expecting to receive an offer from GS (which you happened to make a tag in your post)? dude, shoot for a 4.fucking0, get involved with everything you possibly can and reach out to alumni. you can have a 4.0 from any target school and not even get interviews if you have the attitude you're taking. work your fucking ass off and take nothing for granted.
