Completely contingent on bank - as mentioned - also depends on how the class does in recruiting
it will vary per bank and group significantly. I hear BAML had great return rate this year.
Current summer associate at a EB. Moelis and Citi gave offers preemptively, as widely discussed. BAML and PJT both wrapped up internships in the last couple weeks, both at/near 100% offers. Most other notable banks have not finished up yet. GS and MS wrap up this week so their figures should be indicative of overall rates.
Anecdotally, most of my classmates across the street have heard that return offers will be similar to past years. A few exceptions will be boutiques that don’t have a strong RX presence and larger banks which weren’t able to capitalize on DCM work in the last quarter.
yeah 1 person didn't get it because they fucked up big time relax
Bump
Blair associate interns didn't get any returns
Really? How many of them? So intern analysts' return rate was 100%, and intern associate return rate was 0%? That is so harsh.
Yea pretty shitty
How many summer associates did Blair have?
I heard that they might get rid of the associate program next year.
A Blair associate came onto this forum a month or so ago and confirmed that this was the case.
Heard they reversed this and 10/12 got offers
What? They told associate interns you're not getting an offer, then said, wait, we changed our mind, 10 of you 12 ARE getting offers?
how has deal flow at Blair been
Like most other places, M&A fell off in Q2 as equity and debt issuance picked up. It seems many processes have since picked back up. LP money can’t sit side lined indefinitely.
For mba associates that don’t get the return, are they pretty much fucked in terms of breaking into ib
There’s still opportunities to recruit for open FT seats at larger firms as well as opportunities with smaller boutiques later in the year
first question you would get asked is "Did you receive an offer?" and if they didn't....it's an immediate red flag.
It’s possible but pretty difficult. Like the person above said, when you’re re-recruiting the first thing they ask is if you got a a return offer. Unless your group gave 0 offers, it’s hard to spin why some got offers and you didn’t. And they’re competing with people who got offers that are trying to trade up.
That's not true
Citi/ BAML/ PJT: Near 100% Blair: 10/12
GS, MS, JPM, EVR?
EVR associates still have 1-2 weeks left on the desk. If analysts are any indication of what it might look like, I’d guess around 90% of NY M&A summer analysts got returns offers. I only knew 1 kid who didn’t get a return out of the ~15 summer analysts I know but anecdotally heard overall return offer rate was lower than the 95% it’s been in previous years.
MS was close to 100%
Barclays?
Barclays interns get done next week
Side Q: When summer associates go back to school for their second year, do they play any part in intern recruiting? I.e. Telling recruiting teams who to cut, who’d be a good fit etc.
Obviously
yes definitely. when i was in school they pretty much asked me for a shortlist of who i thought would be good. anyone of the people who didn't bother to know me that well were cut
Got it. In your view, what were some of the qualities/ traits of those who you thought would be good? Or was it purely personality?
Starting b-school in a few weeks and would love to understand how to kick things off on the right foot with the 2nd years
anyone heard anything from GS?
from my school's associate class so far: 2/2 MS 2/2 Citi 2/2 UBS 1/1 BAML 1/1 BMO Moelis 1/1 duh
1/2 WF 0/1 RBC
imminent: 2/2 Lazard 1/1 GS 1/1 Barclays 2/2? JPM 1/1 Gugg 1/1 GH
Doubtful: 0/1 Piper
Wow those are some great numbers
Pretty good placement to begin with and good conversion given the unique circumstances. My guess is very much a target in the T10-T15. Maybe Cornell or Tuck because of the smaller class size.
Spot on. Strong dispersion across all platforms too.
Not enough baml to be Tuck...
Has to be Cornell
how do you know Gugg return offer?
bump
DB and GS should come in the next day or two
Additionally - any indications of hiring plans for next summer?
Barclays is out, any info?
