Last Minute 2024 Internships?

I'm currently a rising junior Econ major at semi-target with a 3.9 GPA. I want to go into strategy consulting but have been rejected without interview for 2024 summer internships at several of the MBB + T2 firms. I know that the state of the consulting industry is pretty dire and that Big 4 recruiting will be bloodbath with the sheer number of highly qualified applicants.

I'm thinking about pivoting to finance at least for next summer. I see that some less desirable front and middle office roles at New York BBs are still accepting applications. I'm interested in ESG, renewable energy, and impact investing but I don't see many opportunities in these fields. My lack of knowledge in finance technicals and relevant finance experience will probably come to bite me. I guess it would hurt to submit some applications and see what happens?

Should I try to make the jump to finance or stick with consulting recruiting? Thanks for your help! Any wisdom is greatly appreciated!

Any internship is always better than no internship, and you can always keep recruiting for consulting just in case you do manage to land something. You don’t need to switch from consulting to finance, just broaden your search.
