LBS MSc in Management or Cass MSc in Finance

Hey monkeys,

I need your advice. I have offers from London Business School and Cass Business School (City University). First is Master in Management, second is Master in Finance. I hesitate what to choose. LBS is strong brand and generic degree, Cass is little known but appears to be quite specific and solid. I plan to work in City afterwards for a couple of years and then to pursue MBA in States. I should also mention that I took CFA Level I in June, but still waiting for the results.

So what shall I choose?

Harvard and trent might be a bit of an exaggeration. I would say more like Harvard and NYU/GTOWN/UVA. In that case, I would choose msc finance at NYU over Msc basket weaving at harvard.

To the op, Cass is a well respected school in London, but LBS is much better. the msc in management at LBS has no track record for recruiting and you will compete with those in msc finance at LBS. If you have stellar grades in uni (1st) at least 380 UCAS points, good internships, cfa 1 and you are confident, go with Cass. Otherwise, if you have an average record and you are risk averse, go with LBS.

The amount of time recruiters will speak about your degree is low compared to them interested in why you want to work there and whether you are fit for the job. Atleast in the UK, very little of what you learn on your degree is relevant to your actual job. IBD requires basic financial knowledge, which can be learned without a three year degree. Sure a degree in Finance will help, but it won't be the be all and end all of the decision process.
