Public Finance At Barclays
What do you guys know about public finance at Barclays? It looks like through a contact I may be able to get a summer internship through a contact there. If I were able to convert this to a full time job what would the pay be? What is the trajectory in this field?
I'm not sure what Public Finance is, but I know someone that is a Finance Analyst at BarCap. It's mid-office role. Not sure what base is, but he got 5grand for bonus. I have no idea what trajectory is.
Base pay would be the same as most IB groups, I'd assume. It's nothing like middle-office work, by the way. Bonuses are less than other groups in IB, but not chump change either.
I happened to get to know a higher up in that division and was told he could snag me a spot, it's the only company I really have ties to other than to VPs at JP Morgan and one at GS. So should I go for it versus try for GS or JP Morgan? I feel that I would have an easier time for advancement, but they aren't the number one or two player on the street.
If you dont take the spot feel free to hook me up :)
You'd give up on a good IB spot at a bulge bracket for a vague chance at a similar internship at a marginally more famous (note; not even necessarily better) firm? Are you serious?
I really have no clue as to what to do. I was fortunate enough to meet a head honcho, I'm keeping it intentionally vague as to who, at a function, turns out he is my cousin's best friend and would set me up. An alum from my prep school is a VP at GS and is definitely on the rise, he'd be willing to lend a hand. 2 friends are VPs at JP one in corporate finance and one in some technical field, plus a 3rd and first year analyst there are friends. I feel that I have a shot at internships there versus a fairly solid offer to the others. What should I do? I'm completely clueless as to what firm/department to go for.

Is there a book on public or corporate finance I should read as I come from a science/econ background?
there are a few chapters on public finance in the fabozzi debt markets book
What would you recommend in addition to that to prep for this?
Double post
bump
It seems to be a public sector spin off of Debt Capital markets. Between lev and Igd (I don t know the %) Salary same as analyst anywhere bonus lower but not low. ( I hate this question)
Your hours are probably awesome too.
there is a lot out there to read.. definitely start with fabozzi & if you are really ocd you can look into any municipal bond book at the library -- obviously you should have an understanding of fixed income securities. also, try to get a basic understanding of local governments & their structure -- you can even watch parks & recreation for a quick overview (nbc tv show with amy poehler). good luck!
(just realized i posted that a month after the bumps, my bad)
