School dilemma- Michigan to Ivey

I did my undergrad at michigan in 2008 (finished econ in 3 years with a 3.9), but got no job offers. I blame this primarily due to the lack of any serious recruitment in LSA. Then, while completing my Master's in Accounting at Ross this year, I had several offers to decide between. Thus, I cannot stress enough the importance of job placement and recruitment history.

hmm i got an internship offer from Michigan Engineering (non-ross) as a sophomore with a considerably lower gpa... I do not have connections nor am I an isolated case. I also know a few others in Engineering getting offers this year as sophomores in front office roles, and obviously a bunch of juniors, especially in S&T roles. so you only have yourself to blame, dont blame the school.

It sounds like your dad has 160,000 reasons to be a little slow to grasp this concept.

Ultimately, you're the commodity for sale in the job market, not your alma mater. Take the free education and work on making yourself someone worth hiring. The Michigan degree might make things slightly more convenient for YOU, but it sounds like it would put a lot of strain on your parents.

Man up and do the right thing. Or find a way to pay for Michigan yourself.

I agree with Edmundo. It's not like you're going to a really bad school anyways. Ivey is a great school and you will still build great contacts there. I would go to Ivey if I were you.

Is Michigan better for Wall Street than Ivey? Probably Is it $120K Better? Unless you're dad is worth many millions, probably not.

As someone above said, go to financial aid office and work out a plan. Take a loan out from the bank and get yourself a part-time job.

I'm going to talk to the fin aid office and see what can be done. I can't get a loan cause I'm not a citizen and have no cosigners, but I'll try to find out about what other options there are.

Dude, I'm sure your not the first int. student to have this issue, go talk to finan. aid immediately. But if you do have to go home, #1 keep in touch with your classmates getting SA & FT positions, make them feel bad for you ha (but seriously). If you keep your network strong and your grades up at Ivey, you'll be fine.

You should be able to get a student line of credit from one of the Canadian banks, regardless if you are studying in the U.S. From my experience, TD and BMO had the best student loan programs out of the big Canadian banks.

Cut your dad some slack. Michigan is a great school, but not great enough to put your dad through serious financial strain.

Michigan is a great school, but you don't want to have to put your dad's financial stress on your head for however long he will be in it.

Trust me on this - I went to UofM, my dad paid that, and now he's out on his ass looking for a job. Not the best feeling in the world.

Why would you pay 1600000 to go to a STATE SCHOOL? Do yourself a favor and transfer to a U.S. Ivey, or go to school in Canada.
