Transferring to TCU
I am a current 2nd semester Freshman looking to transfer to TCU starting in the Fall. I've heard mixed reviews about TCU and the quality of their IB pipeline, so I'm looking to get some perspectives from anybody with first hand experience.
*I'm ineligible for admission to SMU Cox because I didn't take Calculus
Based on the most helpful WSO content, TCU (Texas Christian University) is considered one of the schools in Texas with a focus on energy and investment banking opportunities, particularly in the Dallas and Houston regions. While TCU may not have the same level of placement as schools like UT Austin (McCombs) or Rice University, it is still a viable option for those targeting the southern markets, especially in energy-related roles.
Here are some key points about TCU and its IB pipeline:
Regional Focus: TCU is well-suited for students aiming to work in the South, particularly in Dallas or Houston. The energy sector is a significant focus for many students from TCU.
Competition: Compared to schools like UT Austin, TCU has less competition for IB roles, which could be an advantage for students who actively network and prepare.
Placement: While TCU students can place into IB roles, the pipeline may not be as robust or extensive as other Texas schools like UT Austin, Rice, or SMU. However, students who are proactive in networking and leveraging alumni connections can still secure opportunities.
Alternative Options: If you're ineligible for SMU Cox due to not taking Calculus, TCU could be a good alternative, but you may want to consider other schools in Texas with stronger IB pipelines, such as Texas A&M (which has made significant strides in recent years with programs like Aggies on Wall Street).
If you're set on transferring to TCU, focus on building your network early, joining relevant finance or investment clubs, and preparing for technical interviews to maximize your chances of breaking into IB.

What a bizarre school to transfer to
I only know TCU exists cuz of landman (horrible show btw)
It’s a private school in Texas near Dallas so I would assume they send at least some people to Energy IB
Looked TCU up on linkedin and there is definitely a solid presence in both NY and TX (mostly MM) -- so I assume you'll have alumni at firms that might be willing to help. There rest is up to how good your experience is, grades, etc... Are other schools in Texas/ near DFW not an option?
I though SMU doesn't even take COX Transfer
They do but it’s a very small amount and they require Micro Macro and Calculus as a prerequisite. You have to get accepted to SMU first and then you apply separately to Cox.
Got it. Lowk why not just go SMU Econ then take Calc 1/2 at collin/dallas college.
